1) The first knife I need help with is an orange handled knife with an auto blade and a gut hook type blade. The story that I got from the knives last owner was that the original milspec was for the "guthook" blade to be the automatic blade so that when a pilot got his parachute hung up he could auto open the blade and cut the cords safely but the company mistakenly put the other blade in the auto spot and the army said it would still accept the knives like they were.

2) the second I have really no history on besides that all aviation mechanics supposedly have one assigned to them so if anyone knows please let me know

3)Why are there two holes on the Model# KNIFE,HUNTING,SHEATHED,SURVIVAL,PILOT'S MIL-K-8662E CAMILLUS CUTLERY CO. MAY 1984 on "thumbstop"

Any info would be greatly appreciated for these new items in my little collection of fine blades.

Never give up...even if you fall off a cliff, try to fly....HEY WHATTA YA HAVE TO LOSE?!?!?

The orange handled knife is, indeed, a paratrooper's knife. The blade configuration and the knife for that matter is made to government specs. Camillus still has the contract to make these for the government. The second knife is the pilot's survival knife. Again, it is made to government specs although Camillus currently does not have the contract.

I am trying to add pictures...all three of the knives that I have recently been given are camillus and I would like to have a value on them for my own knowledge and for insurance purposes so any help in these areas is greatly appreciated also.

The two holes in the guard are used to lash the knife to a pole to make a spear. The USAF survival knife sells for around $30 new. The orange handled knife is a "jump", or parachutist's knife. The other knife is a TL-29 lineman's(electritian) knife.

RDHot,
The combined value on the two knives shown (MC-1 and Electrician knife ) is about $50.00 tops. The electricians knives are made by the tens of thousands and the MC1 are plentiful also.

RDHot,

The Army aviation units I've been in, including the one I'm in now, don't issue the electrician knives to individual mechanic/technician-soldiers. However, those knives are included in many of the tool boxes. Different types of tool boxes come with different tool sets in them, and some don't include this knife. Typically, each individual mechanic/technician gets issued a complete toolbox, but not always, depending on how the particular command chooses to keep accountability of its equipment.

You're right about the tool box issue. Way back in 1987 I was issued a TK-101 tool kit (I was a 31V communications specialist) that came with a leather belt-pouch that held some lineman's diagonal cutters/pliers and the electrician's knife. I was lucky because the knife was usually missing because the previous Soldier took it with him.
