I have a 1972 8-dot Case XX Canoe knife, Mint, and it has bolsters that neither I nor anyone else has seen before. They are tapered or fluted on front and back. The guy at the Case factory said that it has been ground down after-market. But.....the bolsters are flush with the bone handles, no obvious signs of alteration, and all sides are identical. They are nickel silver and I would think that if you ground it down too much you would get into discolored bare metal. I am not an expert and I am just trying to find out why these are like this. I can't imagine why anyone would do this and keep for a collection. Please any info would be appreciated. I can email pics to anyone who may be able to help.
