Help IDing a knife

Thanks for the fast replies. How can you tell its an apprentice since the regular PR doesn't have a talon hole? Is an apprentice knife actually a rarity, or is that meant with sarcasm?

I find the knife puzzling, because a PR would be nice to acquire butthis one doesn't seem entirely right.

note the three holes in your pic are the same size, the center holes on my two are bigger, i was told that same size is not infi and bigger hole in center is infi.
papathud spoke on this once i think.

I reckon you've got a combat recruit. See how it's only about a three-finger knife? They were smaller than the PR's and I think had A2 blades. Weren't they made to fit insight an m-16 mag or something?

Could be wrong, but that's my bet.

I agree with Andrew, I think that is a Combat Recruit. They were very rare, unless there is something I'm missing I don't think it is an apprentice knife.

:D:D

I'd say it is a Combat Recruit.

Check the handle profile of it compared to the Police Recruits on Skunks post.

Pretty rare for sure.

If you can score it, do so. Would be a nice snag for any collection.

I was under the impression that the CR had a straight handle, the knife in the pic is too curved.

After searching Badmojo It seems to be an older PR

dang :grumpy:

i was gonna say an a2 combat recruit and look all knowledgable, but was beaten to the punch...

from what ive been told and seen, that description seems correct. the combat recruits were smaller and pointier then the police recruites, and had a rear lanyard hole. the grinds also appear to be set into the choil, square ground, where as on the police recuits, they start at the gaurd, and curve into the choil.

again, from what ive been told/read, all the combat recruits were a2, as were a lot of the police recruits. the police recruits that had the larger center hole were all infi (wich could be wrong)

the basic 3 smooth coat has a similar blade shape to the combat recruit, and the wider crinkle coat basic 3 has a blade shape more akin to the police recruit.

good stuff....

*edit - dangit again... i was so gonna post that exact picture but forgot to when i pressed post reply*

I once had a Police with the same hole pattern as this one, but it was a Police non the less. The first ones, A2, as has been mentioned, had the same sized holes and the rear lanyard/talon hole. The handle grind was identical to the later Police Recruits.

Later INFI models had the center hole enlargement feature.

In the attached pic, you can better see the handle grind difference.

IMHO, the knife in question is a Combat Recruit.

Jump on that knife if you can get it.

How many Combat Recruits have you ever seen for sale? ;)

I have seen only one (yup I bought it) :D

I have seen pictures of only one other,,,some years ago.

I notice you are using my pictures to identify the knife.

Btw my oldest son has the first Police Recruit Variant,,,Hollow ground,,and short enough to be within the rules to carry to School,,,UC Riverside :p

Andre, yup. Got it off Badmojo.

Hope all is well.

Sorry I missed ya at Blade West man.

Mike

Well, I bought it. As soon as I get it, I'll measure it carefully in the hopes of settling the Police Recruit/Combat Recruit uncertainty. From the pics you've posted, it does look closest like the top knife in thatmguy's photo, which is a CR.

Thanks again for the education!
