Help IDing broad axe

This is my 1st time using this site so I apologize if the format is not correct. I bought this axe at an antique store in Virginia and was wondering if anyone could help me identify it. The only marking on it that is a see is "1828". Thank you in advance!

I'd say that's a "village blacksmith" broadaxe, not a mass-produced one. If there isn't a name on it I doubt we'll ever know who forged it.

Thanks for the help. Was it common to stamp the year in the metal?

While I wouldn't say it was common, it wasn't that unusual.
