Hello, I just got myself my second balisong. When I first tryed it I cut myself -badly- and sold it, but I got kind of interested again, so I made a friend buy one when he was out of the country. Since I didn't have a clue and didn't think of the possibillities that internet I had, he just picked up a random one, and I payed about, well, it's 15USD. After I have taken a look at it I can tell that it's crappy and has not much of quality.
The problem is that it's impossible to buy a balisong here, and if this one brakes, I probably have to wait a while before I can get a new one. I have read about taping the back of the blade etc., but I can't find a good explanation. It's "tight" so it is only possible to tape on the back, and is this a good way to do it?
Have also browsed the web for learning how to manipulate the balisong, but haven't found a thing. Balisongxtreme.com is down or something?

Please help me :)

I'm from Scandinavia, and let me tell you one thing, the police are paranoid. But my interest in a balisong is just too practice and I think it's cool, kind of like an art(I know it is, but I have always thought of knives, nunchakus etc. like accessories to martial art). Anyway, it's hard to get one here, so it would be nice with some advice about taping, preserving, rebolting(?) :)

No, no! It's not the blade I am afraid of...It's the fact that all the flipping can hurt the blade, the pins etc. I have seen some guys have taped up the back of the blade, the latch etc., but is this a wise thing to do?

Welcome FreezE! I don't quite understand how taping the back of the blade could help anything. I have seen people put tape on the latch to avoid dings, but thats just cosmetic. When you spen $15 on a balisong (which we've all done at one time), you're going to get about $15 worth of knife. No amount of tape is going to change how it holds up. The tip you probably heard was to tape the sharp side of the blade to avoid slicing yourself when you're practicing. I think tape just becomes a crutch, and you never learn how to safely handle a blade until you've been cut a few dozen times. So don't let the tape become a habit.

Happy flippin!

No, I think it was on urbanpeople.com or something like that, because he had ****ed up his BM. Anyway, I didn't know a thing about balisongs, so I just sent $15 with him. Anyway, I don't think I will suffer from so much pain if I'll get cut, the blade isn't that sharp - and anyway there are injuries in every sport ;-)

Sorry about the site problem. I posted the temporary address on my message board, but didn't post it here as this is not the place for my personal agenda.

Anyway, here it is:

The advanced techniques are the only things that have not been uploaded yet............ but that should be fixed by the end of the week.
