...and I don't wanna leave!

This is my first Blade Show ever and it is overwhelming! The showroom itself is about 8 times the size of the New York Custom Knife Show's or the East Coast Custom Knife Show's. Everyone is here! Hooooweeee! First thing I did after getting processing my VIP pass (thanks again Mike and Spark) and entering the show was to find the Busse Combat booth. Sure enough, the yellow sign stood out quite nicely. Andy Prisco was in a suit and tie, no less. Amy Prisco was there, too, radiant as ever. Dave and Mrs. Roberson were there, too. Lots of knives were on the table, as well as a few variants. It's always very difficult to resist purchasing a Busse, but I'm holding out for something special. Jerry was no where in sight. Turns out he won't be in until tomorrow. I proceeded to Darrel Ralph's table to pick up my EDC Dominator. Hooooweee! What a sweetie! I'll post some pictures just as soon as I can get them processed. I then went to Chris Reeve Knives. Haven't seen Anne in person since November of '96 at the NYCKS. It was like meeting old friends. Both CRK and Emerson as right next to each other. Funny seeing the crowds gather in one spot like that. I tried to find Matt Lamey, but couldn't. Kenny Rowe was set up right next to Busse. Nice fellow with equally nice leatherwork. Dexter Ewing was hard to miss. He's probably one of the easiest forumites around to spot. Got that vest weighing him down while wheeling a bag full of knives around. I felt like I found a long lost twin when I met Dexter. We carry so much of the same stuff.

He has a whole lot more knives, of course. The highlight of the day was having dinner with a bunch of fellow forumites at the nearby sports bar. Ruby Tuesdays was just too full. Whew! Gotta rest up for tomorrow.

G2 I had my digital at Blade today. Too busy meeting people to get any pics.
I also had the great pleasure to see the faces of a friend's sons as they walked into their FIRST knife show ever. They start at 12 and go down to 81/2 months, 6 boys and the youngest is a girl. Had a hard time keeping the smiles from fracturing their faces. Almost had to bring them spare shirts.

Me too! Believe me, I was planning on taking lots of pics, but sheesh! What a crowd of great people and spectacular steel!

I know what you guys are talking about, the walk around is too much, and you end up staring at table tops ALL THE TIME, and who can blame you? Not me

I wonder if anyone saw Kelly Yates, aka Senator, get his fixed bladed knife at the show? Ed Caffery (sp)?

I know he was anxious about it and it was to be the highlight of his trip there.

Thanks guys and keep up the good work.

I just got back from the blade show, wow it was great. Greg did find me eventually and took a picture that i sure hope stays in his camera.

It was a very good time, was able to put faces with freinds made on the internet, and that is very rewarding.

I bought some supplies, but couldnt pass up knives by Micheal Connor and Murray Carter.

I guess the most important thing i "found" at the blade show was inspiration.

Matt.

Matt, it was great to have met you. I'm really looking forward to seeing the blade we discussed. Gary, I met Kelly at the show and we had dinner along with a bunch of forumites. I'm not sure if the blade I saw him holding which had an extended guard is what you're talking about. Kelly was at the other end of the table. I couldn't quite make out the details of the knife, but it was nice looking from where I was.

Hiya, Gary. Yes, I was at Ed's table within seconds of arriving. Prairie Storm now resides in North Carolina! What a sweet piece. Ed and his wife were real pleasures to talk to. He was really sweatin' bullets until he was awarded his Mastersmith rating.

In addition to Ed's knife, I picked up a mini-dagger from forumite Audra Draper (who also received her mastersmith rating at the show). It's got a double ground damascus blade, sharpened on both edges, fossilized bark mammoth ivory handles with an elephant ivory spacer, and a brass double guard.

The bargain of the show was a small damascus fixed blade that I picked up from WV maker Herb Derr. It's got a 2700 layer 01/L6/nickel "birds eye" pattern damascus blade that was Herb forged himself. He also hot blued the blade which gives the piece a bronze tint to it. It has beautiful buffalo horn handle slabs, a single finger groove, and filework all around. He tops it off with a rattlesnake skin covered leather sheath. All for a grand total of $130. Unreal.

Alan Folts had my NCKK fixed blade finished. I also did a little horse trading with Kit for a small Model 16...

All-in-all it wasn't too bad of a show.

Also had a great time meeting a buncha forumites like Greg, dogman, Michael J. Smith, GeneL74, Llamedos, Waxes Eloquent, Jerry Hossom, Ed Caffrey, Audra, Dave Ellis, and others...

I also played with about a dozen different masterpieces by Ray Appleton and his son. I never knew there were so mant different ways to make a folding blade lock. I also never knew that it was possible for a person of Ray's size to fit into an MG T-type, but he's got too many racing stories for it to not be true! What a pleasure it was to spend some time with one of the greats.

I'll post some scans later...

The show was awesome!!! It was only my second show (Winston - Salem was the first). I was impressed by the number of businesses there and the willingness of each maker to take time out and talk, answer questions or whatever. I really enjoyed the opportunity to talk to a maker about something that we have been e-mailing about, it seemed to help the porcess. A special thanks for Mike for the VIP passes as well.

Doug

Greetings All!

My 1st Blade show was a total hit! The makers were all very friendly. Met some formates there and really enjoyed the poolside get togethers.

I am still walking on air from my time at the Blade Show. If you have never been to one I encourage you to attend.

Some of the highlights for me were:

Meeting both Mike and Spark (Sorry I missed the TuTu though)
Picking up my Camillus Talon
Talking to Rob Simonich
Meeting so many wonderful people.
