Google is being very helpful, and I can't every get the BF search to work for some crazy reason.

I'm not looking for chests, or glass cases, but a simple wooden stand to hold a knife. I'm looking for something nice, and unique. I don't like the single wooden plank base with two cylinder pillars design though.

Anything really nice and interesting out there?

What kind of knife are you looking to show on it; I make my own and kind of customize them to the knife that I am trying to display. They are extremely easy to make.

Ray,

I'd be interested in seeing some pictures! Ideally, I'm wanting to display a match pair of knives. On 8" OAL and one 4" OAL. They are custom fixed blades.

Sorry I won't be able to send pics right now because my camera is broken, but since you don't like the standard stands I have two ideas for you. First you could find a piece of driftwood or rough cut small "log" that will rest on a flat surface. I chisel out just a very small groove in the wood for the blade to sit in and then use a small dowl or block with a notch sanded or drilled out to rest the handle on to the height that you want it at. My other idea for you is getting a a rough cut slice of something like redwood or such. Then you can either drill out a small hole in the center and stick a small cork in the middle and that way you can just stick the knife into the cork and show it that way. Otherwise you can set up a stand with dowel or small blocks of wood with the rough cut piece as your base. I'm sorry I can't show pics right now and hope that I explained it well enough for you to understand. They are all very easy to make and I really like the look of rough cut wood on the stand. I don't know what the handle materials are on your knives, but I would look for a wood that will really set the handle material off. Anyways, wish I could be more help!!

Thanks for the thoughts ray. I like the idea of having a raw piece of wood for the stand. I have a few pieces I've been collecting, waiting for my woodworking ability to catchup so I could do something unique with them... this might be my chance! I'm getting a very nice custom knife for graduating college, it is a local knife, so some local wood would be great as well.
