Turns out that I really didn't have a plan.

Before finding the knife suppliers I bought a 1095 Bowie blade off of ebay. My intention was to put some handles on it and have a backyard chopper.

My problem is:

Turns out that it's a blade from Pakistan. Since I was 'sold' a blade from a US company the seller refunded my $$$ and didn't want the blade sent back. Since the seller didn't want it back I know it's dirt cheap.

Should I even bother? Is there anyone near the alabama gulf coast that can check the hardness of the blade before I put any work into it?

Thanks,

Mark

If it is going to be a back yard chopper, just test the edge with a file. If it files easily...don't bother putting on handles. If it files just barely, or not really at all, it is good enough for the handles.
