Heyy. so i ordered for a custom Santoku Carbon Steel Knife for my friend. And i was hoping to make the spine and body look darker... im just kind of afraid to ruin it completely so i was hoping someone could help me. im not sure what the effects of each type of etching does to the blade.

he did actually... but it was kind of a gray-ish color. when my friend saw it, he said that it was nice but it could have been better if it was darker

You should ask this in the knife maker's forum. You will get good answers there. I don't know if gun blueing would be food safe.
