Ha! I knew you'd open this thread! :D ;)

I just got a Buck/Strider Tanto folder and its already starting to wear on my pants pockets. What have you done to avoid this problem?

BTW, now that I have the Buck/Strider, my BM AFCK seems like a toy!

Best option is to remove the clip and use some 220 sandpaper to smooth down the grip or grips then finish with 400 grit if you really wnat them smooth. The replace th clip and you are ready to go with no more shredded pockets.

Good Luck!

How far should I go? Would it be worth the effort to make the handles smooth? Or would I loose to much of the grip?

I've taken them down to be completely smooth. It's really your call, with some minor sanding on the clip side, you can eliminate the pants abrasion problem leaving the other grip untouched.

I would assume this is a warranty voiding modification, right? I don't know if I need to worry considering there is already a laser etching on the blade...

Another option --- an open top leather belt pouch. Several good makers can do this for you, including Dwayne Puckett (AKA Leatherman), Gary Graley, and (of course) me. Makes a great looking rig, much more attractive than those funky clips, and saves your pants too.:D Just put my large sebbie in one made for me by Leatherman, snakeskin inlay no less !!.

Just a little tip, if you're sanding down the scales, make sure you're not breathing in the G10 dust. Use a face mask, open up all the windows, ensure ventilation. It'd probably be best to do it outside.

Yea, G10 is fiberglass! Bad for the lungs!

That was the exact same feeling I had, but I got the Buck-Strider first. So when my AFCK got here, I didn't really like it.

But now the 806D2 has grown on me, though the knife I still instinctually go for when in need of knifesturbation is the Buck-Strider 880. The handle texture, the thumbstud, the open frame, the no-nonsense design, that oh-so-thick hard-as-steel (uh, wait, it is steel, well heat-treated at that) blade... ooh. For me, the BS defines the term "instant wood". Now if you'll excuse me, I have some fondling to do.

Back on topic, instead of sanding down the scales, you can try loosening the clip a bit. Easier to do if you remove and clamp in a vise. Strangely, I tightened mine once I got it, since I don't think the handles and clip are grippy enough. :) I must be nuts.

I might get a belt sheath later...they look nice though!

I bought some torx screwdrivers yesterday in order to loosen the clip and I discovered the threads were stripped on the clip screws! :(

Well, its on its way to Buck right now...I know they will make it right. :)

BTW, I heard that Buck just sends the knife on to Strider, is that right?

I was of the impression that Buck handles everything. I've heard very good things about the warranty, so I wouldn't worry. But if all else fails, Strider will fix it, since the design is theirs. They do this not out of obligation but because of their pride in the product/design.
