HELP! I've got rust...

I have a Blackjack 1-7 MIB that I had forgot about and left in my truck for a week or so and now it has a couple of dark lines starting at the edge and running towards the spine. These are both on the same side, the other side is fine. I can feel them with my fingernail like a groove in the metal. Has anyone had this problem and is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks,

rk

Is it a user or a collector?? If you are using it, I would say to take the finest scotchbrite pad or some steel wool, then buff it out. if it is a collector, I would use some very fine steel wool, and some light oil, and rub in the direction of the sanding marks... No matter what u do there will be that area where the steel has been etched by the rust...

Smokey Mountian sells erasers thatt are used for this purpose I have used it with good results. You can also polish the heck out of it when you are through and it will look like new

it is in there Christmas 99 catolog page 127 item uc135 $2.99 multi purpose eraser phone number is 1 800-251-9306 they work great

Another possibility is to pass a partially rectified current through the affected area. Properly done, this will convert the mineralized section back to uncorroded metal. It won't, however, be exactly like new, as the corrosive process with have caused imperfectly reversible migrations.
