Help keep this forum in a Class Of It's Own

MauiRob did something great by bringing back to the top the "Tamang" thread. This reminds me that the two major things this forum has going for it are Uncle Bill, and the OTHER ( not me ) forumites.

I'm not being self-deprecating, but I'm betting you keep coming back because of the 'Small town ( but round-the-world ) cracker barrel next to the wood stove down at the dry goods store' atmosphere, the awesome knowlege out there, the cameraderie, the gently stated wisdom, life experience, philosophy, etc.

And of course the khukuris. Like Bill says, what does this have to do with khukuries?

My email is above each post. Please send me suggestions on how to keep this forum on track so Uncle Bill doesn't have too much of a mess to clean up. Even if most of the suggestions are to shut up quicker. Rusty

You're absolutely right, Rusty, about the small-town atmosphere being a major draw of this forum. That's why I'm really hoping the khuk khunvention comes together -- I'd like to actually meet my fellow forumites. It's pretty amazing how a bunch of guys can form a bond without ever actually meeting one another or without even knowing what one another looks like. But maybe in August we'll have the chance to put faces and names together. I hope to see everybody there.

So far I've met about 10 -- they do not always look the way they come across in the forum but they certainly come across the same way. It is a lesson in that old adage, "looks can be deceiving."

I would love to personally meet everybody and I am basically anti social.

I know I can come here, open virtually any thread, and learn something, or laugh, or wonder.

The atmosphere is of polite camraderie and respect, with an element of mischief just under the surface - nothing stuffy or pretentious.

It's a very cool place to visit. My thanks to you all

It is nice to see an out pouring of knowledge, much like when I was an apprentice woodworker. This forum reminds of an old saying: "sometimes the wind can do what the hammer cannot"

I'm glad I found this forum, due to Uncle Bill. It is nice that many of us could come here to share information and make new friends. The computer has brought many of us together from around the world and it would be nice to see everyone in August.

So should we bring up a classic thread now and then for the newer forumites? Howard's Khukuri FAQ's is kind of an oldies but goodies thing too.

Bill, part of what makes this forum great is...well, there's 5,147 of 'em at last count

As a relative "newbie" to this forum, but by no means to the Internet, I have to say ditto to the above. A pleasant place to "meet, discuss, and get help" - especially the help part ("newbie"), as I've always gotten very good advice to what are probably "simple questions" to the "old timers".

Thanks folks.

Ummm - just how did you mean that "...take care of...", Uncle Bill?

You want us to "take care of him," boss?

Make it look like an accident?
