I'm new to the forums and need some advice.

I just bought a Kershaw Blur 1670S30V. It was the last one in stock at Sportsman's Warehouse. After I got home I was looking at it I noticed that the blade is off center when it is closed and actually rubs against one scale. This can't be normal can it?

Before I either return it to the store (30 mile round trip) or contact Kershaw is there anything I should do that could fix the problem?

Welcome to the forums!

A method that usually works is to tighten the pivot screw (when knife is closed) on the side that the blade is touching the scale. This should push the blade more to the center. Don't tighten too much or the blade may not open properly. If this does not work there are more steps you can take if you feel confident about disassembling the knife. You could also get additional information here:http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=809
There are many there willing to help. You will also find Kershaw warranty contact there. If all else fails send it in to Kershaw, they will definitely make it right. Their customer service is excellent.

Good luck!

Not that I can think of, but I"m sure if you contact the factory, they will take care of you. That knife is a handful. Everything I've heard about their service department has been positive.

Thanks SOLIEL. Unfortunately, the pivot only tightens on one side. I've tried tightening the pivot, had to back off 1/8 or so to make sure the AO worked. Still didn't help. Tightened the frame screws, which were a little loose and that just made the alignment worse. I'll check out the link, although I may just wait 'til Monday and contact Kershaw.

I've added this thread over on the Kershaw forum. Thanks for the advice SOLIEL.

Thanks popcornpicker. It is a very nice knife. The AO is impressive, the blade shape is one of my favorites, all around I really like it, except for that one little thing.

Just send it in to Kershaw. They will take care of you.

Thanks kindred_spirits. If its a simple fix that I can do, I'd like to try, as long as it doesn't void the warranty. After reading the Kershaw forum a little bit, I've heard nothing but praise for their service, so that isn't a worry. Its new and I wanted to have some time to get familiar (play) with it and not have to send it away.

The first one I got,was a used one off of ebay. It was a Black Blur and I think I paid about twenty for it. I was so impressed, I bought a new one for 48.00 As far as its size and strength, this thing is tough to beat. This knife will jump out of your hand. That's what I call AO.

I don't know if I'll ever be in a situation to use its full capabilities, but it is certainly an impressive knife.

never i work at a sportsmans warehouse in texas and our knives are perfect, just kidding the plain edge 1670 is a bit off center with our display, and did you get a %5 discount for the display model, because our store manager said we can do discounts on even display models.

I asked if there was a discount for the display, but didn't push it hard enough. I was too anxious to get it home to play with. Next time I'll know better.

pg, if ya want to play with it try this...loosen the pivot and the handle screws. Then re-tighten them from the end of the handle, working toward the pivot. or do it in the opposite direction, or mix it up, always finishing with the pivot. Fiddle with it before you send it back, you might find the right combination.

While most of the Kershaws are perfect from the factory, or day-um near to it, some still need a little tweaking. If this doesn't work, or you don't want to fool with it, grab the link on the Kershaw sub and give them a call. It will be taken care of in a hurry.

i meant to say that we CAN'T do discounts, please dont push it if you didnt get a discount most likely you cant and youll get what i tell customers is that my store manager said that i cant give any discounts unless they are through the store manager

Thanks SPX. I'll try to be more systematic in loosening and tightening everything and see if that helps.

Bitter, thanks for the clarification.

Another good trick to fix an off center blade is to open the knife and then push the blade, with the flat of your hand, TOWARDS the side the blade is about to rub. I would loosen the pivot screw slightly before I do this and once centered, tighten it back up to your preference. I've used this technique on several knives without fail!

Thanks cutter. I'll give that a try.

Well, I've tried loosening and tightening the frame screws and pivot working front to back, back to front, pushing the open blade in the direction of the rub, nothing seems to help. I guess I'll get my little box ready for tomorrow and a visit to the UPS Store. :(

The BLUR is a excellent Knife. Do not accept anything but excellency from Kershaw. give them a call. A strange note: I was at a gun show a while back and some guy had a butt load of Kershaw knives for sale, some of which were BLURS for $25.00. No boxes, just stacked on top of each other in a bin. Some had blade etching, all looked new. Did not seem to make since.

Well my Blur is on its way back to Kershaw. It should be there Wednesday. I'll post a follow-up once it returns. Thanks to everyone for all of their suggestions and help.
