Hello all, i just recieved a kershaw military boot knife however, it did not come with any carry straps. Can anyone post pics of their straps, particularily the "under coat" or chest/shoulder carry strap? I need to rig something similar up. Is the shoulder strap elastic material? and what does the clips and buckles look like? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Tripz...

I got something better for you than straps....

If you go here:

http://www.mnsi.net/~nbtnoel/mercop.htm

You can read a little about it, and has direct links to mercop's site..

These little rigs are simply the best thing going...
I use to carry shoulder rigs with large straps, now I use these...

BTW..
Good to see yet another Canuck here at BF.com
Got any questions, drop me a note..

Hey Steve....

The paracord goes across the back in a figure 8 more or less, and is just like a traditional shoulder rig, but without all the bulk and fuss...

I'll pass this onto mercop,, possible he has some better pix for you...

I was looking around at a few of the photos and didn't quite understand how it stayed in place. You've explained it perfectly.

I'm going to order one of your OHT sheaths from sosakonline and rig up something similar with black 550 cord. I don't like the idea of having a cord around my neck but around the shoulders doesn't bother me.

Thanks Normark.

Steve, good luck, if you can't figure one out I am always here.

Having messsed around with under shirt carry for a while way back when, here's my two cents.

There are a few big problems with under arm carry (for use with a jacket or overshirt. One is printing the harness. Flat straps work better for this, but the commercial rigs also tend to have larger buckles which print like crazy. Another problem is stabilizing the blade when running or bending. Typically with a setup like that, running will set the blade and sheath oscillating underneath your arm, which increases in amplitude until your weapon is in danger of being ejected. When bending forward as if to pick something up off the ground, the rig tilts forward from gravity and will show. Most commercial rigs use some combination of stabilization straps that clip onto your pants like suspender clips. I found that they only worked somewhat well.

Then again, I'm a thin guy, and just about anything prints on me.

You'd probably save me a lot of frustration, time and wasted 550 cord. :)

Hey Guys...

Partridge...

Actually there is more printing from a strapped shoulder rig than there is from the Mercharness By Far..

When you print with a strapped shoulder rig,, Everyone knows what straps mean.. With the mercharness it doesn't look like much...With a printed T-shirt it blends right in, and with a light shirt loose overtop, what was there if anything is gone.

As for the bouncing and swaying back and forth, your going to get that from any type of rig, whether it's tied down or not...

If the knife falls out of the sheath,, it wasn't one of mine.. :)

I use a mercharness exclusively as my biking rig,, and have no problem with it at all. I forget it's there most of the time.

The point with the mercharness is that it's simplicity at it's finest..

Theres simply not much to go wrong with the mercharness. Mercop followed the KISS rule to the "T".

As far as shoulder rigs go, for this type of rig

9.5 out of 10 as far as I'm concerned.

The only way to make it better is to make a paracord shoulder rig, and get rid of the paracord. Impossible...

BTW George..

Took me a minute to figure out what the snare was for...:) When I realized what it was for I thought.."Boy, he thought of everything!! "
