i don't know which Lansky Sharpener i should buy?! i want to sharpen a Knife with ELMAX steel and another with VG-10 and i want to give them a mirror edge look!

Please help.

I'd recommend the diamond stones, with a ultra fine and sapphire ceramics which have to be bought separately. They even have a leather strop. This will take of the steels you have and future steels. You should be able to get everything for around 100.00. That's what I use and it has served me well so far.

Be warned! I picked up two or three of the stops but none of them had the leather applied flat to the backing.

I use the diamond medium and fine hones plus the yellow ceramic and blue sapphire polishing hones.
I bought the leather hone...not worth the money at all. Not flat and just does not do the same job a strop with compounds will do.
I use the hones on an elmax zt566 as the hardest steel but also on 154cm steel. The hones work great.
I'd say the most economical way to go is to buy the hones and wires rather than any kit. I never use the box the kits come in. I also bought an extra set of wires so each hone has its' own wire and they are all set correctly saving time having to do them over and over.

If you go the route that Kai Winters does a large enough tackle box may be able to hold everything comfortably I imagine. I don't own a lanskys so I can't really comment on the specifics.

I have a few lansky sharpeners and find the guided system to be harder to use than just learning how to use their regular diamond sharpeners..you have to lern how to use the guids so you may as well just learn free-hand

I always wondered how the little leather strop worked. Do you add compound or will it give a mirror polish out of the box?

Definitely the diamond kit, I would wait until the end of this month or next month though. The updated kits should be out with rubber inserts and redesigned thumb screws (so you don't hit the front one while on 17 degrees).

Somewhat out of the box. I roughed it up a bit and use polishing compound and it gives the blade a decent polish. Nothing like other more expensive sharpeners, but good enough for me.

I have been using a KME Sharpening System on my Zero Tolerance 0560 (elmax) with great result.
Diamond stone set with Hard Black Arkansas (surgeons) stone. T hen stropped with brown then green compound.
So sharp I would think twice about letting others use it.

I have not used an edge pro or wicked edge but I cannot see get any better or more uniformed edge. Plus it is only half the price ($155 after buying the base) of these other systems and looks quite nice

Thought you were looking for a sharpener for Elmax not just for a Lansky

I use a tackle box to hold my sharpening kit. I've removed the "walls" of the top tray to make one long tray and store my hones, with wire guides attached, in that tray side by side.
I've permanently attached the wire guides to each hone and replaced the thumb screws with set screws and used blue Loctite to hold them in place. I get full stroke on the hones and once the wire guides have been "levelled" to the surface of the hone I only have to check them now and then.

I've used the leather hone with and without green compound and found it does little or nothing IMO...it is just too small but I suspect Lansky was responding to customer demands for an "easier" way to strop a knife. The easiest way I've found is to practice...

The OP asked what Lansky he should get for sharpening Elmax...
