Hi guys,

I'm looking for a 5-hole pivot wrench so that I can tighten the pivot or take down my Gareth Bull Large Shamwari. Someone pointed me to a South African site that sells such a tool but they said that it's imported from the USA. Any ideas where I can find it?
The pivot top is about 1/4-inch in diameter.

Thanks for your help!

Subscribed. I'm in need of the same tool for my small shamwari. The pivot has started to come loose so guidance on where to find the correct tool is appreciated.

Snap Ring pliers or spanner bit sets at a hardware store would work just fine. They offer very tiny tips.
You do not need to use all five holes. 2 or 3 will work just fine.
One can be made with small brad nails and a piece of wood as well.

If you go to knifekits.com and search for "alien spanner" it'll take you to a little wrench they offer that might fit this. Contact them and see what the exact dimension are. I too use clip pliers on similar pivots. I got a cheap set from ebay for about $5 shipped, but the pins were too fat, so I had to grind them down on my belt sander to fit, but now they work fine.

Thanks for your ideas.

I haven't been able to find a snap ring pliers with pins that are small enough to fit. I haven't had luck at the local hardware with a spanner either.

I'm going to order the alien spanner in both sizes from Knife kits to see how those work.

My pivot is loose and the blade centering is now off, and I'm frustrated its been this difficult to find a tool that will fit and work.

Creativeguy, what's the south african site? I can try looking for it on US sites as well.

I cut a paper clip for now and that worked okay although it doesn't give much control of the torque. Good luck, bud!

Cut a piece of paperclip, form it into a U of the right width, stone or sand the sharp edges off of the tips so you don't scratch your hardware, clamp in the end of pliers with just the tips sticking out, tighten pivot.

That works okay but not great. The tool is much preferred. While those pivots look cool, I wish they'd just stick to a torx.

If had success with some really fine needle nose pliers, but I agree I hate these kinds of pivots.

Hey guys, you can order from the site I posted above.

I tried but they don't seem to take credit cards or Paypal.
This is from my phone, I'll try on a desktop in case that makes a difference.
There's an option to arrange a bank transfer and then fax them the confirmation.
And I can't get through on the contact email. If I can get one I'll let people know, maybe I can order some extras.

Update: it was just an error on their site, they contacted me that it had been fixed and I bought a couple in case anybody else was having trouble getting one. Let me know if you need one.

Awesome, man. And that's really cool of you too.

If anyone would like to give me the dimensions of the pivot or even be willing to send pics I can machine the proper wrench for it out of aluminum.

Cheers

I picked up another knife with the same pivot screws and I still need this tool.

Anyone found a US source for one yet?
