Help make *lightweight* Sheath -- Knives of Alaska

First I am LEFT-HANDED. So, I can't use their sheaths- besides they are too heavy.

I bought two knives:

1. Jaeger (boning-caping)
2. Muskrat (skinning, fleshing)

I need to make a lightweigh sheath for both to carry on belt.

I would like to make them out of a lightweight, water resistant material like ballistic cloth. I would want to copy the basic Knives of Alaska design for their Jaeger knife, which allows the knife to be at an angle to the belt and not get in the way when sitting etc...

Any suggestions on material? on pattern/design? on type of stitching or glue? Further, if any of you can make a left handed version, please e-mail me details at writeluismontreal@hotmail.com

Thanks!!

You can make a sheath from heavy 11 oz cordura nylon which is coated but you should have a plastic liner for the blade .

Great. Where can I buy 11oz cordura nylon? Maybe a material store?

Where can I get a plastic liner for the blade? Are you referring to a Kydex liner?

Big thanks to anyone that would help me out!

Cheers!

one source is Seattle Fabrics, another is Beacon Fabric. You don't need Kydex. It's just something to protect the fabric from being cut by the blade.Thin polyethylene ,1/32 -1/16" can be used.
