Knifemakers,

I'm taking a jewelry class this summer, and I've gotten some titanium from Chuck Bybee. I would really love to attempt to make a folder, the only thing is the jewelry studio doesn't have any grinders or heat treat equiptment. I'm hoping to contract a knifemaker to collaborate with to get a blade that I can "finish" and build a folder around.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mitch

Mitch, you can buy a kit from the knife supply catalogs ans just use the blade if ya want.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel

I guess I'll most likely end up going with a kit. I wanted to try making a liner lock, and most of the kits are lockbacks. I'll give it a try and see how it comes out.

Thanks,
Mitch

I think Halpern Titanium has a linerlock folder kit.... not positive

There is no such thing as "good enough", either your work is good or it is not. How is your work?

Well, Halpern discontinued their kit, and Koval won't have Darrel Ralph's kit for at least another few months. I guess I'll just by a lockback kit, and change the liners, bolster and handle material.

Thanks,
Mitch

UW Mitch, if you dont want to go that route and just need a folder blade to build your kit around let me know we can figure somethin out to get you the shape/material you want. I have looked at all the folder kits on the market, except for the Darrel Ralph kit, and find them very rough built, rounded corners from the peices being punched ect... so if you want just a blade cut and ground for ya let me know we can work somethin out..Just email me.
