help making first sheath

hey guys i made my first couple of knives and know its time to make some sheaths for it. unfortunatly the books i have on knife making dont really cover it. could you guys please give me some tips and pointers such as how thick of leather should i make it and what kind or where i should try and even get some leather from. thank you

The stickies are a great place to start, I finished my third folder belt sheath last night, turned out pretty good but not great.

I use 8/9oz double shoulders. I buy most of my supplies from Springfield Leather or Tandy Leather. Here is a link to a sheath tutorial on the site:

The Paul Long and Chuck Burrows DVDS are both excellent and probably the best for learning.
