I have question in regards to the looking mechanism on the Manix. The look doesn't move all the way to the end. Is this normal?
I also notice the blade is slightly off center and there is a lateral blade play when closed.
The lock should not move all the way forward and many folders have a bit of lateral play when closed, so your knife sounds normal in those regards. As for the off center blade, while I would not call it "normal" in that it annoys some folks, it is not uncommon and, unless it's rubbing the handle, is generally not considered a warranty issue.

You don't want it to move all the way forward. That extra room is room for when parts wear some. The blade tang is ramped or at a slight angle so that the ball bearing only goes so far until the BB makes contact with the tang and tightens everything up. As things wear it will travel further up the 'ramp' instead of allowing play to develop.
I originally purchased two CF/S90V Manix2's and as you can see the locks were not the same. The lock on the lower knife is at the end of it's travel. Both knives were purchased new but the top knife has much more room for wear.
Well if you have a magnifier check to make sure you have the washers on both sides of the blade. Mine had them on only one side (2), caused off-center blade and lots of lateral play
Thanks for the explanations. The look position makes since. To be honest the play and off center is barely noticeable. I look with a magnify glass and each washer is at each side. Thanks for the tip.
I'm very happy with the knife and think Spyderco makes high quality products. In the short time I have been collecting knives is my favorite brand.
I have one I have been flicking open and shut for probably two months now, trying to induce some wear. Nice dice, honestly. I admit to giving it the occasional drop of oil and not filling the lock and pivot with sand, but still...these are going to outlast some of us here...
