this summer i moved out to Milwaukee, Wi. and until now i was not in the market for any new steel ... this has recently changed ... i know i can just look in the phone book but i would rather opinions from people who actually know the shops and can share experiences .... i don't have a car so the closer to the east side f Milwaukee the better but it is not mandatory seeing as how i can come across transport if need be ... thank you all very much for whatever help you can give

If you would like to shop local on principle, I commend you. If you are unable to find a suitable and fair shop locally, consider newgraham.com. The shop is run by one of the community here, and has garnered quite a bit of praise. :thumbup:
normally i shop localy based on principal ... with knives it can be a little different ... some shops are just way over priced ... the main reason i am looking for a local shop is so that i can handle something before i buy it ... a luxury i do not get from ngk
Since you haven't gotten any specific information, you will need to sniff them out yourself. I recommend starting with the yellow pages of the phone book. You might find something under knife, if not, then check with the gun shops. Some of the best knife collections are in gun shops or indoor shooting ranges. Also hit the local REI or camping outfitter. At all of these places, ask the counter help for recommendations of other knife shops. You will find what is out there.
And please don't go to these places just to shop and then buy online. Their service is worth a few bucks. At least pick up some accessories or supplies. That way you will be more welcome next time, too.

Janesville Wisconson Custom Knife show this weekend at the Holiday Inn I believe..do a search for knife show in janesville wi and it should come up...THere are LOTS of good knives there...:thumbup:
