Help Me Choose a Blade

Okay, I am assembling my edc/bob backpack. Currently I am trying to decide on a blade. I wish to keep to low cost (preferable around $60). I was originally going to put a 7" fixed blade because of the versatility and appearance (Ontario SP-1) but then I was thinking of getting a neck knife (izula). The Ontario would be an awesome universal blade, I always wanted a kabar, and it would be a good camp/survival blade.. On the other hand neck knifes are awesome, if I got the izzy I would have one of the best neck knifes, and I will end up getting one anyway. The sp1 would be more in the middle. Could you guys give advice on which blade (or blade category) to get. Any other blade models or styles are acceptable as well. All I really want is a knife to keep in my backpack. I am currently leaning towards the izula because I don't have to take it out of my bag when I go to school and at a later date I will have more money and be able to buy a better fixed blade.

I'd get an Izula or a BK11 or 14, or other short fixed blade. But I wouldn't just drop it in a bag and forget about it. I'd carry it with me as an EDC. Chances are, you'll have your EDC blade with you if you ever are in a situation to need a BOB, and you'll also have it with you even if you don't have the bag, so you'll get more use out of it.

Yep - nothing original with this response. Becker BK11, BK14 or ESEE Izula - you can't go wrong with any of the above. I have both of those two Beckers and my son and my best friend both have Izulas (and BK14s). I prefer the BK11, my son prefers the BK14 and my buddy likes the Izula. Heh - not too helpful. :p

My BK11 goes with me most everywhere (well, that or my Spyderco Native) - it's one heck of a knife...

You're already drooling over the Izula though - you're probably right. You will probably eventually get it, so why not now?

Scrapyard Scrapivore- SR-101 and right in there at $60. Heck of a knife as well! Plus I like the prytool at the other end of the handle.

Thanks for the input everyone. I guess i'm going to get a neck knife. I already have a few edc folders but I will try to edc it as much as I can. The problem is a lot of people here (canada) are intimidated by knifes so a carrying it around my neck isn't always an option. Now I have to decide between the izula and scapivore. Which would you guys recommend?
