I carry a daypack to work and am looking to buy a new one. My requirements are as follows:

Medium to large size
LOTS of pocket, to organize all the stuff I carry
Clean lines (no ice axe straps, etc.)
Plain black
Durable

I have been looking at the Maxpedition Condor, but I'm not sure it would function particularly well as as a daypack/book bag. Right now my top choice is the Jansport Big Student. Anybody own this bag?

I haven't got the Condor but i do have the Baby Condor.
Let me tell you that it is one of the best day packs for school or university i have used. It has lots of pockets and can fit so many things in it. It is extremely spacious and i can fit one of those big A4 folders inside it easily as well as putting in my big pencil box. I think the squarish shape makes it fit things like books and folders easier.

One of the best things about it is that it has a rubber bottom. This means that if you accidentally put it down somewhere wet or dirty it won't go through the bag into your stuff. Plus it's easier to clean.

The workmanship overall is really good. I think it would be difficult to find another bag with so many useful features.

One thing i would have liked the baby condor to have though is a storm flap for the zippers. Isn't a big deal but it would just add a bit of extra protection.
