Well Father's Day is coming up so here it is: this will be a general carry knife, nothing hard use occasional whittling, opening boxes and the like.

Non tactical (no serrations, black coated blades, ect)
Sub 4 ounces
Nothing longer than 8"
left hand friendly
folding

Preferable no assist, but if the knife is perfect in every other way that's negotiable. The most limiting thing here is the price, $50. Lastly keep in mind I'm open to suggestions for traditional knives as well as modern:thumbup:

Thanks in advance for any suggestions:)

Decide on a spyderco dragonfly, thanks for all the suggestions guys, I really apreciate it!

I was going to say anything Benchmade with the Axis lock, but that's outside of your maximum price. But I gave a Mini Grip to my sister, who's a lefty, a few years back. I've also given her a couple of Victorinox Swiss Army Knives--I used an older Huntsman for a year opening and breaking down boxes at an arts & crafts store since there were never enough box cutters to go around. SAKs are great for whittling, too. Spyderco has a number of knives in that price range and the opening hole is as amibidextrous as the Axis lock.

Or if you want something traditional.

Case Medium Stockman Amber Bone CV(carbon steel)
(The blades will come to you mirror polished, but they'll get an awesome patina)

Thanks for the input everyone:) I wish Kershaw made some lefty knives...Spyderco or stockman...what do you guys think?

I love my stockman. It's nice to see a patina progress throughout the knife's life. And having three blades is fun too.

had a RAT1, loved it, but think the RAT2 would be a better size for most folks.

The Kershaw Cryo is pretty lefty friendly. I'm a lefty and I have two of them. And is way under your budget. It is assisted though. You'll want the bead blasted one if you don't like coated blades. And it is 4.2 oz

I think the Mini Grip or the Delica are great choices. The axis lock has better ergos and they both come in a variety of non tactical colors.

Benchmades landslide ridgetop might fit what you are looking for. its 7.3" overall and 4.1 ounces. it comes with the nak-lock which should be easy enough to use as a lefty

ka-bar dozier, I'd also look at some of the spyderco's from what I recall they have quite a few lockbacks if I recall correctly which I would consider lefty friendly as I'd personally just find it weird working the liner and frame locks in my left hand (right handed, though almost ambidextrous except for the finer motor skills like writing) though thats probably just me.

For a more traditional knife buck still makes some good ones, in fact I would consider their ecolite knives as well. Their Buck 112 ecolite for example is 3.4oz with a 3in blade compared to 5.6oz in their normal 112. Can't forget SAK's they just make great EDC's personally I like the idea of having a Cadet as an EDC, feel in love with one after seeing my brother green one and still need to pick one up.

As of recently, Buck's QC has been slipping, so I'd recommend not getting from them until they get that fixed.

buck lite max large??? made in usa and is sort of a lefty, its a lockback and has ambidextrious thumb studs, but the clip is permenently on the right hand side :/
i own one and was able to split an oak log with it (batonining) and it could still slice paper, not too mention i did this with my crap sharpening

I got a Buck Vantage that is just about as ambidextrous (I guess that's the fancy way of saying left-handed, since NOTHING is ever made specifically for a lefty...) as they come once the clip is swapped over. Been a fantastic pocket knife.

Spyderco UKPK or Squeak. Both don't lock, aren't huge, have pretty good steels, have utilitarian blade shapes, make a good EDC, and are just overall good knives and seem like the type your dad would like.

Boker Plus Chad Los Banos XS has a decent steel, G-10 handles, slip joint, one hand opening, ambidextrous clip, and a good blade shape for just about anything.

Boker Knives Elegance Lockback Ebony 01BO186

Case XX Sway Back Gent in his favorite color bone

Just some options there for you.
