Hi guys,
i'm a little bored with my present collection and i've decided it's about time i got a folder with a g10 handle (yeah, you read right, i dont have any g10 folders :( ) the knife would probably be used for typical everyday stuff, opening letters, cutting string, opening packages, whittling, and i'd also like it to be reasonably competent in a self-defense role. I do tend to lean towards larger folders and so far the spyderco military and starmate and the kershaw avalanche stand out, and i would like to stay within that sort of price range. I've also been looking at some of the emerson and rekat knives, i greatly appreciate any input you care to give, and i hope you can help me decide which folder will be arriving at my house next week :D .
Thanks guys

I like the Emerson Commander. It's a great utility folder and a great defensive tool. The Usual Suspects can't say enough about it. But of course, if it doesn't turn you on, the Axis AFCK just might:D

Just checked out the axis AFCK  :D  i just hope the local dealer has them in or on order!

You might want to look into getting yourself a REKAT Carnivour, but if you are really feeling bold...Get yourself a monster REKAT Sifu.:).

I think that you'd find the Emerson Commander or SOCFK with the Wave feature not only useful, but quite addictive. If that is a bit much in terms of aggressiveness, two Axis lock benchmades stand out: the 710 (which started it all) and the 806 (the new ACFK). I'm looking to hook up with both the SOCFK and the ACFK, within the next few months.

Good luck, I don't know the first thing about Spyderco, but I'm sure they would also be great choices.

Emerson also has a MINI Commander that I just had the pleasure of handleing. the textured G-10 on that handle as well as the other Emersons just sticks to your hand i don't think I've held a production folder that fits my hand so well.

Great suggestions guys :), keep 'em comin, i'm gonna check with the dealer this afternoon to see what they have in stock, i'm hoping they only have one of the folders you suggested so i don't have to choose between them!
thanks

You like large blades? I've found that the Military is the biggest knife I can comfortably carry clipped in my right front jeans pocket. Don't even know it's there! But you'll have a real cutter when you need it. ;)

Thanks again for your suggestions, as it turns out they did only have one knife from my ever-growing list in stock, my Spyderco Military should be with me tommorrow or monday :D
