Help Me Choose A New Knife

Thanks to some profitable e-baying of some non-knife collectables that I used to collect, it looks like I'm gonna have a little extra money to buy a new knife soon. So, knowing the value of seeking the advice of those more experienced, I've decided to come here and ask you guys for help on deciding on what to get. I'm thinking of either a peanut or a muskrat, as I have neither style represented in my collection at this time, but I'm open to other pattern suggestions too (as long as they're comfortable in a pocket). And I'm looking to spend around $50, more or less. Carbon blades are a plus, but not required. It doesn't need to be a heavy duty working knife, as the most I tend to do it cut the occasional string, open the mail, or slice an apple. So that's it, recommend me a good knife. Thanks.

Queen #66 CSB Carved Stag Bone Muskrat $45.00 D2 steel, these are great, but Queen has just announced they are discontinuing the Carved Stag Bone line, so if you like it......

Canal Street has a sweet muskrat in their dark amber bone, but it's 420HC (stainless). There are two models, and the 212320 is the nicer of the two (threaded bolsters, nice swedge on the blades). $54 here. (No connection, just one of my favorite vendors.)

Frankly, while I like the looks of a Muskrat (and own one of the above) it doesn't do much for me as an EDC knife. I work in an office and prefer something with a real small blade in case I need to use it in front of the soccer moms. Canoes are real good for riding in the pocket because they're so slim. Whittlers give you an extra blade option. Pen knives and Senators are great if you don't need a bigger blade. I like Peanuts, but they're pretty thick for their size.

You might also look at Mini Copperheads. About the same size as a Peanut, but their two blades are at opposing ends, so they can be a little slimmer. That may limit your options to Case though: Haven't seen the Mini by other makers.

Finally, I just picked up a Schatt Premier #7 English Jack which I've been EDCing for about a week and am growing quite attached to. It's about 3-1/2" long closed, two (stainless) spear blades, and has quite a few nice features: Threaded bolster, long nail nick with really nice matchstrikes, swedged blade. $54, same place as above. Can't ask for more. Or find it, anyway...

Good luck,

-- Sam

Hmm, I'm really liking the look of that Queen #66 CSB Carved Stag Bone Muskrat. And since Queen is planning on discontinuing the Carved Stag Bone line, I may get it just so I have one. Of course any more suggestions are welcome, I've still got about a week before the money order comes in, so I've got plenty of time to decide.
