Next week I will be headed to South Dakota (Black Hills) for a couple of weeks. Granted, most of the trip is just a tourist thing, but I am hoping to get a little forest time. I will be taking my BK15, and as always, my trusty yellow Victorinox Huntsman will be with me, but I also want a locking folder to accompany my BK15 and I would like to get input from others here in Becker land!

So, here are the choices I have whittled it down to:

From top to bottom:

Boker Lockback Hunter in 440C (Nice lockback, decent steel and flat enough for decent pocket carry)

GEC #72 in 1095 (Mini version of the above knife. Nice and flat and it has traveled with me a bit)

Case Copperlock USMC (Not the greatest steel, but it disappears in the pocket...and hey...USMC!)

Queen 41L Copperhead linerlock (D2 steel and again, hides well in the pocket)

Here is the next batch:

Top to bottom:

AG Russell Hunter (Ok, this is my favorite of the bunch. I have traveled a lot with this one and it fills the hand well. The big drawback is that it is pretty thick)

AG Russell Texas Ranger (nice long blade and "slicey" as heck!)

Opinel No8 (Inox version, decent steel, thin and slicey)

Opinel No7 (Also Inox version)

So I would like to hear from others about which of the above they would pair up with a BK15 for a trip up North. I hope this is not too out of place for this forum...thanks for the help!

my vote is the GEC 72 or Queen 41.
I prefer the size & shape of the 72, but it's hard to say no to D2.

With any of those beauties you couldn't go wrong, as you know, but I think that no. 7 Opinel would be perfect to round out the trio. Big, Medium and last and least ...small. Since 1890, they must be doing something right!

That GEC 72 is sweet!!
I don’t think it’s much of a choice...:D

Opinel N°7, but sharpen it to scalpel-fineness. Put it in the BK15 sheath pocket.

Those AG Russel lock backs are nice! I'm glad I opened this thread, because I've never heard of them until now. Wish those Arkansas hunters were still in production, all they have is the TX Ranger version.

With the huntsman as well go with a pocket scalpel....opinel.....hard to beat for woodcraft or kitchen duties regardless of price....carbon of course!!
