I am in the market for one and would like some advice on which one to get. I don't really know much so bear with me. I would like a compact player that fits on my arm and works well with working out and doing cardio. Price range is $100 to 150 give or take a little. I have an iMAC so it must be compatible. Approx. 4hrs of music would be nice although I know some hold 2hrs. I believe that the iPOD is out of the question because of cost.

Is there a certain brand to stick with-- RCA, RIO...? Also, what are some good internet sites to get music from?

Thanks for taking the time to help me.

Hey, another Hoosier.

I've been looking at the Nomad Muvo stuff recently (particularly the Muvo NX 256MB). You just unplug the flash-drive part from the battery pack part and plug it into any USB port, so it should work on an iMac.

Various Muvo series stuff on Buy.com

You may want to look at Minidisk players also. The disks are about the size of a floppy, cost about $1, and hold 70 minutes of music.

I have a CD-based mp3 player from Sony. It plays CD-R/RW's with mp3's burned on them as well as standard audio CD's. It's about $110 with a tape adapter, cigarette power adater, and the wall socket adapter. It's got a scrolling display for title, it reads ID3 tags for artist/album, has a numeric track display, time display, and it recognizes standard Joiliet or ISO9660 (both standard CD burning options) folders.

The only downside to it is that there are no playlists, but I can burn a CD just as fast as my brother can reconfigure/build a new playlist for his Nomad.

I spent over $300 for a Creative Nomad 3 MP3 player. I wrote quite a bit about its problems if you want to do a search. I also never got the rebate I was promised, even though I send in for it.

The main problem it has in my opinion is software. It's the most user unfriendly piece of equipment ever. It's hard to delete songs, make playlists, navigate through the 20 gb of songs I have. Its so bad that another company, Red Chair, makes Notmad, software that does what the damm Creative software should have done in the first place. The software for both your PC and the player get an F---- piss on then pile feces on rating from me.

The thing crashes a lot, but hey, so does Windows!

It does sound good, though. Battery life isn't bad.

A friend of mine got a Creative Zen and likes it a lot, so if you don't need to record you might want to look into that. If I were to do it again, I'd spend the extra money and buy an I-Pod.

Hope this helps.

seriously Ipod is the nicest mp3 player.

Great software (itunes for windows). Firewire and its awesome. I have one and i love it.

Save $$ and get the iPod. It is the best out there.

I did evaluate one of the new iRiver players (the one that looks like a round lock). That sucker was tough! I dropped and dropped it from about 4 feet onto a hard surface and it kept playing. I then slammed it as hard as I could into a phone book, still kept playing. If I ever need a unit for heavy duty use, I think I get the iRIver.

iPod just has better sound, holds more and is easy to use. The one thing I don't like about the iPod is that the controls are too sensitive. Other then that, I love mine.
