So, I don't need either, but I intend on buying one or the other this weekend. I can get an uncoated SRK for $50 or a Short Night Hawk model 655 (partially serrated) for $30. I'm leaning towards the SRK, what do you guys say.

SRK would be my choice, but I'd look around for a Carbon V one.

HA! number 1 for the nighthawk. Buck's 420HC with their heat treat is not to be underestimated. I love my large nighthawk. THICK blade, can take lots of abuse and no chipping, and easy to re-sharpen.

srk carbon v steel ,,,great knife

and not because im selling one ,but it is a great blade,, :D

Buck, made in USA.

The Cold Steel was made in the USA as well. That's the direction I'm leaning. It's in as new condition but the box is missing. Knowing me, I'll use it anyways, so that's not a problem. I'm leaning that direction- the price is very good. The Buck is, no doubt, a very good knife. That deal only saves a couple bucks- I'm shying away from it- If I decide that I want one, I should be able to get comparable pricing at another point. Also, as much as I think black blades look nice, I don't like the way they wear. I don't see all too many uncoated SRK's. I think I'm convinced:D

I've had both. Had the Nighthawk. I still have the SRK (Japan SS version). If it didn't say Japan on the blade I'd think it was made in the USA. It's a tough knife. Secure-Ex sheath is great! Lot's of lashing options. Aside from my LMF II it's my #1 Survival Knife. As for the Buck. It has all the qualities of a good Buck knife, but the sheath stinks. I would pay the extra $20 and have a better quality sheath and no coating (I'm not big on coating lately). Even CS SRK Cordura sheath is better than the Buck Nighthawk sheath.

I've got both a Nighthawk, and a Short Nighthawk. I really like them both. They are excellent blades for the money.

Anpther vote for the Carbon V SRK for $50. That's a hard deal to beat.

I had a short nighthawk and loved it. Although the sheath is garbage, I'm confidant that the knife would keep me alive in nearly any situation. I only sold mine because I wasn't doing nearly enough camping to justify owning it.

depends on the use,
sharpened crow bar which will outlast me and a couple of grandkids - the buck
sharp knife for general cutting, srk.
