Hi

in my last thread after many appreciated suggestions I decided to obtain the DPX HEST 2.0 specifically the camo G10 one, because I like folders with glass breakers. However the split second before I was going to buy one, I saw the Microtech Socom Elite. After doing research and spending days I still can not figure out if the Socom Elite is worth the extra 100$. I really like the design of the Socom but I don't like the screws Microtech uses as it arises questions such as: "How can I service it myself if I'm in a jam?"
I'm also afraid of the DPX lockbar because I heard their titanium is run soft

What are your opinions? Thanks

I've never owned a Socom but I've had 3 HEST folders, bought a version 1.0 that was used, the lock bar slipped on that one...returned it and they replaced it with a brand new 2.0. It never slipped or worked other than perfectly. Traded that one for a Gray Para 2 if you can believe that.... Soon after missed my HEST 2.0 and had to get another. Picked up a user with about a 40% lock up and it's been perfect ever since. Not a single issue and smooth as silk, their C/S is top notch. The Blade is actually smaller than you would think.....

The Socom's blade is a bit big for me to EDC at 4" But it also looks like one hell of a knife....

If you are looking for a 3" folder in all Ti, let me suggest the Three Sisters Forge Beast.... It's a 3" blade with a 4" handle all Ti and a water jet pattern sporting an M390 blade. If You are considering shelling out $270 for the Microtech, the Beast is around $300.... Just a thought.

Side Note: You are absolutely right about the Microtech proprietary screws, I traded into a Whaleshark that the previous previous owner had stripped the screw heads for the clip. Microtech doesn't have buckets of these sitting around... It's taken about 10 + weeks to get it back home. You can buy the actual "Proper" bit to remove the screws from several makers out there. If you get the Microtech, what ever you do, don't try to remove the screws with anything less than the proper bit.

Thanks for your comment I might stay away from Microtech then since I like the option of self maintenance

I've owned both knives. Sold both. Regretted selling the Socom. It is hands down one of my favorite folders I've ever owned. Nothing wrong with the Hest, but for me, Socom please.

I agree with Bigfatts the socom is one of my favorite knives I have owned. I have not heard many if any complaints from any one that has owned a socom before either.

SOCOM S/E is also a long blade for a folder, and pretty light weight. I sold my Hest, never miss it!!!
