My bday will be tomorrow and I'm looking at a couple blades. I'm no new knife guy, but I've come to realize my collection is very use specific. I want a general carry tactical blade.

The two I'm looking at are an Emerson Etak B and an Al Mar sere 2000
I'm leaning towards the emerson as its made in US and the design appeals to me more, but I'm not certain.

Input on these two blades or other suggestions will be appreciated thanks
200-300$ is my budget
My choices are influenced due to benchmade and spyderco not appealing to my taste, and ZTs might be a little too thick and heavy

Thank you all

ETAK B for sure. I handled one recently and it's super ergonomic. The blade shape looks like it would be great for utility and the blade stock is thin enough to still be slicey. I'm a huge Emerson fan so I might be a little bias, but I'd definitely get the Emerson.

Thanks for the replies, I'm a big fan of Emerson's myself
But from what I've read, the al mar seems to be a refined emerson style knife?

The Sere 2K is very refined. Much better fit and finish than any Emerson I've owned.....however, it is not an Emerson style knife. At all. They are two very different animals.

Go with the one you like the looks of best. Emerson and Al Mar both make great capable blades. Happy birthday man!

The Al Mar might be a problem if you ever need any replacement parts or warranty service. They do not have what most would call a stellar record, compared to what others in the industry do it might be counterproductive.

Amen! Definitely something to consider. Emerson is excellent in that regard, whereas Al Mar - not so much.

check out the ZT 0770 carbon fiber. Nice...smaller...light. 3 1/4" of Elmax steel. Only 3 ounces...heck, my Zaan is five ounces...
Oh yeah, and it's cheap.

Personally, I'd go with the Etak B. Emerson knives may not have the highest marks in fit and finish, but they get the job done just fine. Factor in the warranty/customer service like others have mentioned, and I think you have a winner.

As for ZT's being too heavy, well that's kind of their "thing" and they do it extremely well  I've had no trouble EDC'ing several ZTs (0551, 0566, 0770, 0801, 0561).

Have you taken a look at the 0561? Definitely a tactical blade but the titanium keeps the weight down for it's size.

ETA: Other Emerson suggestions would be the Super CQC-8 and Roadhouse.
