Hello everyone!

I am scraping bit money saving and I'll get enough money so I can order next month finally my very first Case's Canoe. I love pattern but I only got few China mades ( Rough Rider and Colt which I got via trades) and I really love the pattern.

I consider myself a traditionalist but Case doesn't have much selection in CV canoes, only Amber Bone with horrible etching on blade. I wished to go CV for Canoe but I guess I can live with Tru-Sharp stainless though most I have carried Case knives with CV I own some Tru-Sharp blades too but they get way less pocket time ( Tru-Sharpits not that bad I hear pretty equal to victorinoxes steel)

I still haven't dropped Amber bone CV out of list. But so far: My list consists:

Case Canoe Amberbone CV
Case Canoe old pocket worn red SS
Case Canoe Red Barnboard SS
Case Ducks Un-limited SS

Does someone have any of these and could post pictures of them or opinions? I need bit help to choose. Since I buy these nativelly (to avoid the custom's issues ) these are pretty same priced.

I am partial to the pocket worn red myself.to me its classic, like the old yellow handles. If you haven't handled the pocket worn series I think you will really like the way they are finished, everything is rounded and smooth.Be sure and let us know what you decide and how you like it.

I recently purchased my first Case Amber bone. I absolutely love the way it looks and feels.
That would be my choice.

i vote for amber bone. second place would go to pocket worn canoe.

Amber bone CV canoe. I carry one of these every day. The etching will fade fairly quickly as the blade gets a patina from use. You can also use a little Flitz to polish it down faster if you wish.

If you like CV and canoes, then there's not much of an option. However, I just bought that Texas Jack like that one FLymon kept posting up and the amber bone is very nice. Actually better than it looked in pictures. So, it is a good option. As far as the blade etch, it is what it is. The knife will be sweet though, blade etch and all.

The etch could be removed with some polishing compound and then when the CV blade patinas, it will hardly be noticeable. Oh, Amber and CV!

all the way! if given a choice i will always choose the CV:thumbup:
Nothing wrong with the stainless, just prefer my knives to develop a story over time:)
cant go wrong with any of them though
gene
p.s. the etch could be removed fairly easily, i dont care for blade etches either so thats what i would do too.

Amber and CV, all the way. I'm not much of a canoe guy myself, but out of your choices, that's the one I'd go with. Here's a pirated pic:

Case's amber bone is nice. I didn't like it for a long time, but recently I discovered that if you sand it a little bit, and knock off the very top, darkest layer, it looks much better. I did this to all of my amber bone knives, it's one of my favorite Case handle materials now. I have an amber SS 6347 in my pocket at the moment.

The other gents are right, a little Flitz or Simichrome will knock that ugly blade etch right off.

Another option that might be worth looking at is the olive green SS with pinched bolsters. Very classy looking, IMHO:

This is probably how I do: I like how the Barnboard red looks like. Since the retailer gives me slight discount: I'll buy Stainless barnboard red Canoe, I really like the jigging and color. Tru-Sharp is not bad. Then I'll buy Amber Bone Canoe in CV later as I already own small amber bone Texas Jack in CV. Of course I need Stainless and CV samples of my favourite pattern. That's just logical ;) Alright, I need stainless, CV and damascus samples if we're completely honest :D

However I am making soon long dream of mine come true: Case Sway Back Jack chestnut bone in CV... Life is good :D When I get back bit from the taxes I've paid so I'll get then Sway Back Jack.

I consider myself to be a "Canoe guy" -- and perhaps oddly, I prefer the Queens over the Case canoes. The one that made this pattern "teh one" for me was a simple "Winterbottom" Queen. Since then, I've picked up a number of them. The 1095 "Classics" are very smooth --- and the latest Honey Bone ones are very nice. I sent a few of the D2-baded ones to BRKT to be convexed a number of years ago. They are now some of my favorite cuttters. While I do have 1 CV Case canoe, my Cannitlers (esp. Canal Street) and Queen Canoes see the most pocket time for me.

Canal Street and Queen are hard to get in here. Cannitlers and Queen Canoes have 0 stock. I'd love to get sometimes Queen Canoe... too bad GEC hasn't made any Canoe pattern... that I know.

Jampa, did you check the Northwoods Canoe? Unfortunately, they only come in Stag. D2 steel.

As has been mentioned, the etching(which does look pretty awful!)will disappear when you patina the cv.So when you get round to getting the Amber Bone one it will not really be a problem. The colours in Amber Bone do vary a lot from knife to knife it seems to me, this can be a bit annoying.

The new Olive Green Bone is a really nice scale, very smart indeed.

Böker do carbon Canoes too so they could be an option, particularly the Appaloosa Bone version, very nice indeed. You will not be disappointed by that Chestnut swayback, that's a fact!

Cisco Kid: Thanks for infor about Northwoods. I need to check availability.
willgoy: Böker is on my short list. Thir C75 carbon should be good steel. I know there's some availability in here for those.

I've got a friend that has always carried, and collected Case Canoes. Most all of his are the older thinner ones with a single backspring.

I had some years ago, and also liked the single backspring version a good bit more than the double.

I'm not sure when Case changed over, but thinking maybe over 20 years ago.
You can still find them pretty easy.

Does anyone know what year it was that Case went to double backsprings on the Canoe?

willgoy: Böker is on my short list.

If Bokers are now on the list, I'll second the Appaloosa bone. The ones I've seen have been very nice. I do like the blade shapes of the Case a little better though.

Another vote for Amber Bone. I have a Case mini-Trapper with that scale type. I love it.

You've been drooling too, huh?

I've been trying to get brave enough to order this gunboat canoe. Don't know if the wife would forgive me the price even if the bone is purpleish.

Tough choices. I've almost settled on a grey bone or a black synthetic but am ordering a rough rider first to see how well I like the pattern.
