I am kind of new to Emerson, just picked up my third yesterday, a CQC-7A. For me it was a coin toss between this and the A100. Was looking for a bit of a utility knife. Will probably buy the A100 as well down the road. The CQC-7A:

I see a lot of the suggestions here but I would recommend one with the hook which made Emerson what it is.

Basics are the:
CQC-7 with the tanto blade and Commander. I would think that these two are both very popular and yet very different. One of those is what would be my choice for you.

I have about 20 Emersons in all different models. I like the CQC-8 the least because of the long grip to blade ratio. The Horseman is good choice ( which is the mini CQC-8, just under a different name). The Gentleman Jim is a good stabbing knife tactical blade and the discontinued CQC-11 is a great all around blade similar to the Journeyman (but I much prefer the CQC-11 over the Journeyman). The A100 does not have the hook and if you want a spydie hole then get a spyderco. why get something similar to what you may already have?

So those last two versions would also be one of the choices down the list for me to recommend.

Go to the Emerson website and do some youtube searches for the models you lean towards and see the reviews. Some emerson models come in 2-4 sizes like the Commander (micro-mini-regular-super and Uber) and the A100 comes in two sizes and the CQC-7 comes in 3 sizes. The CQC-8 comes in 3 sizes the Horseman -CQC-8 regular and the Super CQC-8). So once you find the design you want then go for the size you wish.

OH! and get a stonewashed blade!

Alright my top 3 i found that i like are a A-100, mini commander, and mini horseman, now its onto deciding which one:)

There is no such thing as a "mini" Horseman. Just a "Horseman">which is the same as the CQC-8 only smaller.

From those three I would get the mini commander or Horseman. Both have the hook -wave opener (for your first Emerson I think you should get a model with the wave opener). If you want to pick the smaller of the two , the horseman has a bigger blade than the mini commander. I like the Horsemans blade for overall use more than the mini commander.

I am gonna get the horseman. Sorry im extremly new to emerson blades.

THANKS ALL!!!! I appriciate all the help and input ive gotton from yall:) once i get the horseman ill post all my pics and all what i think of it!:) again thanks:)

Thats a good choice. If you can, try and get a 2013 Horseman or newer. The new ones have an improved wave design and is much easier to wave out. The older models (2012 and older) have a smaller less user friendly wave. They took a bit more technique then just pull.
