I like the style of the Northstar Companion better. Both look nice, but I would buy the NSC. I like the longer cutting edge.

But these are both made in A2 steel and you said in your other thread that you think A2 steel "sucks". Why are you thinking of buying a knife in a steel you don't like?

Good luck in your decision. I believe both knives would serve you well.

They seem to be nearly identical, except for the blade shape.

Just pick the one which has the blade shape you like best.

it's the same exact handle with different blades.

i just got a mini fox river in green canvas micarta with red liners. it's beautiful, but i will return it unless someone wants to buy it for what i paid. love everything about it except it's rather thick, and I was hoping for thinner scales so I could carry it front pocket. my rising wolf is a larger blade and yet the scales are thinner, so unfortunately it doesn't meet my needs.

that said, if you will back pocket or belt carry, it's an AWESOME knife. also, it would front pocket carry well for many people as well, but i do wear more form fitting jeans.

the NSC is really cool, but like i mentioned before, I chose the MFR because the shorter blade would be easier to carry.

So, the spine is the same thickness, therefore, without holding them I can tell you that.
The Northstar will taper more towards the edge. The other knife will be a fatter angle.
I hope I'm expressing this clearly.
I own 7 different BRK's, and they all have a different geometry. The shorter the height, you will have a more surdy edge, but will wedge through material.
If weight, and comfort of pocket are important, go with the smaller knife.
If you want more of a tapered edge, more cutting/slicing ability get the NS.
Some Barkies have thin edges, great for cutting, not so great for real hard use.
My STS-3 is too thin for prying, batoning, etc.. But, it cuts so damn well.

I was just looking at those two , and I would choose the Northstar companion. It's a bit bigger according to specs , and looks like a more pleasing knife to me. The blade is longer and I like that as well. I am considering ordering one myself.

Since I'm unfamiliar with those two, I'm going to guess that the Northstar Companion is in the bottom picture. Is that right? It has the overall look of the Northstar series with its drop point, anyway.

I like the pointer of the two, so my tastes lean toward the Northstar Companion.

I ordered a Northstar Companion from KSF a little while ago, I think it looks great and I'm looking forward to getting it in the mail. So there's my choice.

Well, I got my Northstar Companion in today, and I am quite impressed, it is a nice size. I can fit four fingers on the handle and my palm is just over 9cm wide at the base of my fingers. I ordered the Tan Burlap model, here it is:
