Help me choose Spyderco Sage 3 Bolt Action lock or Superleaf Compression lock

I found both for about the same price range... Well, I love BM Axis lock, love the Manix ball bearing...

Looking to venture new locking mechanism?

I'm done with liner locks...have many already.

I would go with the compression lock however on the Paramilitary 2. I am assuming that it would be the best platform to use the comp lock on.

New locking mechanism? Try the Spyderco Meerkat :D

The Spyderco SuperLeaf also uses compression lock. If you're looking for something different, the Spyderco Dodo uses a ball bearing lock (i'm partial to the CF one which I believe has a ceramic ball)

Wow the blade thickness on the superleaf is ridiculous...looking to buy now!

I wouldn't say it's ridiculous....it's a thick slab of vg10 for sure, but no thicker than something like the southard, and thinner than the techno. Either way, regarding the original question, I prefer the compression lock over the bolt action lock. The bolt action lock by design has a lot of metal on metal contact within the locking mechanism. This makes it somewhat stiff and gritty to unlock. The action of the blade is absurdly smooth, but the smoothness of the lock itself leaves something to be desired. The compression lock on the other hand is one of the smoothest, fastest opening and closing locks out there and is tremendously strong. As other posters have said, I also prefer the para2 to the super leaf, but if you like the super leaf then by all means snag one now as they wont be around long.

Superleaf in my pocket now too, get that one while you can still find them. Save and get a Sage 3 later...

Compression lock is great but if I was choosing between these knives I would be considering the size difference first, and for me the Superleaf is the size that I like.

The more I think about it, I think Spyderco sneaked in a "civilian-looking SNG" into the knife market with the Super Leaf.

Of course, most likely cuts better, more friendly ergos and costs waaaay less.

I surprised to see so many people rockin' the superleaf. I too have dabbled in buying one but just never made a move. I think it has to do with never hearing anything about them.

Superleaf is great, the VG-10 on mine rivals that of my Al Mar SERE 2000 easily. The only thing I don't like is the hooked end on the handle but it really doesn't affect the performance. Its got good jimping/choil and the weight is just right. Its more of a backpack folder where the Para 2 is EDC, however. Para 2 definitely carries better.
