I've been looking for a high quality fixed blade, but I'm no steel expert. I've narrowed down my list to these four, but if you feel there's a better knife in a similar price category (I'm pretty flexible), let me know.

Ka-Bar Extreme Fighting/Utility Knife

SOG Trident 2.0

Cold Steel Recon Tanto (San Mai III)

Benchmade Nimravus

If you're looking at the nimravus for that price I would recommend a scrapyard 411 or their mud mutt. Much cheaper and the ergonomics are amazing! And from there you might just get addicted to busse and kin (tends to happen). Good luck!

If you're willing to spend around that $200 Nimravus I would take a look at the Survive Knives Gso 4.1.

What you will be doing with the knife? Anything specifc or do you just want one in general?

How about a mora? Moras are pretty good and i've seen some positive review on their knives. They are cheap and made in sweden. Honestly i dont think those knives are worth the price. BTW What do you want to do with your knife? For bushcraft and fishing i recommend a mora and for self defense i recommend a SOG Trident pocket knife.

I've got a Nimravus 140. I had the 141, but tantos are worthless (to me). Oddly enough, the tip on the 140 is stronger than the 141.

It's a fantastic knife, but not the "strongest" fixed blade.

I'll echo the question of intended use.

We really need to know what you are planning on doing with it. Otherwise all you are going to get are "I own so-and-so" recommendations which are meaningless since those who reply may have different needs than yours. You might also clarify your budget. You're kind of all over the place there.

Regarding steels, if you are planning on using your fixed blade in the field I'd recommend something in 1095. Easy to sharpen and heavy-duty when HT right but being a non-stainless it does require some maintenance. ESEE, Becker, and many others offer good knives in this steel. SR101 is another good steel for outdoor use. Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard knives are good examples.
