I am looking for a larger EDC to use at work. I would like something with a strong lock and decent steel. I have been looking around and have come up with a couple budget folders that might work. Which would be your choice and why? Also, please add suggestions if there are any I missed.
Cold Steel lawman
Cold Steel Hunter
Ontario Rat1
I wish they made a larger Kabar Dozier!
Kershaw JYD blem

Spyderco Manix II

There are flat ground variations available, if you prefer it :D

Out of what you have listed, I would say the Kershaw JYD Blem. It's for work so blems are no big deal. Besides the JYD blade profile just screams "work me hard"....;)

The JYD would probably be my choice too. Not sure how robust the liner lock is on the RAT 1 although I know its a quality knife.

Other suggestions for a large, heavy duty EDC blade are a Kershaw RAM and Kabar Mule. Not sure if those are out of your price range.

Maybe also check out the Ontario Utillitac II - I have to say that the RAT 1 is definitely not my favorite knife. The Utillitac has similar stats and is just much more usable.

Also check out the Kershaw Blitz ... doesn't have the AUS8 but still a very nice knife.

Out of the ones you have listed, I would go with the American Lawman, its just a tough knife all together, with a lock that is unmatched...

I'm going to give another vote for the manix 2. The lock is beefy, uber beefy. the blade is beefy, uber beefy. It's also very smooth to open, has a pretty good profile when it's closed. the g10 is nice and grippy. the jimping is nice and grippy. The only down side is the caged ball lock is incredibly stiff and hard to disengage. although this isn't really a downside as it's a testament to how strong the lock is.

I own the blue sprint run, unfortunately i don't need to carry a knife that big so it sits at home.

Either the Cold Steel Lawman, or the Manix II They are built for heavy duty work.

I am a big fan of CS folders. They have the g-10 handled version on close out with the axis lock (as long as you don't mind the half serrated blade, I am ticked I missed out on the plain edge clip point).

Might want to take a look at the new version Voyager's as well. Couple blade options, and really strong lock.

I will be the 5th peson that votes for the Spyderco manix 2, I own 4 total of those and I have carried 1 with me every single day, rain or shine since I bought my first one.
