Hi Guys! I am about to buy my first traditional folder. I am having trouble making up my mind on a couple of Case sway back jacks in stag. I know that in the end it has to be my choice but if it was your money would you buy either of these knives or just keep looking?

I wouldn't hesitate to buy either one. I do understand the hard decision you are faced with though. They both look great but in different ways.

I like them both a lot but I think that personally, I would choose the one on the bottom. Not a dang thing wrong with the one on the top though.

I was just thinking that since it's such a hard decision, maybe you could ask the seller which one has the better characteristics that you like in a knife. Good snap, centered blades, no backspring gaps, or whatever your preferences are. Chances are, one might be a little better than the other in those respects.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I am also favoring the one on the bottom but having never owned a stag traditional folder before I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. It might be different if I could handle them in person but I can't.

Well, I´d like the bottom one. Though I don´t own any Case in stag. I can say nothing about their stag at all. But the bottom one looks better to me :)

Kind regards
Andi

All other things being equal, I'd choose the bottom knife. Nice figure, color and a little popcorn on the mark side and the obverse is not a bad match.

Just talked to the seller. He could not describe any noticeable difference in fit and finish, snap or any other aspect between the two so I bought the bottom one.

Even though you already decided what to buy, I'm posting because I find this pretty funny.
Before I answer you (welcome to the coolest section of BF by the way :) ) I have to say that I'm not a fan of stag, and even if taste is personal, some people here (posting before me) have seen and handled more stag knives than I will ever see in my whole life.
The funny thing is, of course, that I'm out of the choir and I'd pick the one on the top. Not because of the looks (I find them both attractive), but because it looks smoother and I prefer smoother handles.
Again, no surprise: I've known for long that I'm one of the odd knife ducks of this subforum... :D

Fausto,

Thank you for your opinion. It is as valid as anyone's and just the kind of food for thought I was looking for. I can't wait to get my new knife and will be spending more time in this sub forum. I am pretty sure this won't be my last traditional folder.:D

Just like I'm pretty sure that your grandfathers came from my country :)
The fact is, I come from very different "knife roots" than the majority of people here, and I find it funny everytime I go "against" the crowd.
Everyone's opinions are absolutely respected here, so there's no shame in the difference.
Such difference is a value that people cherish alot, here in the traditional section. One more reason to stick around here
Good luck for your SBJ!
