Hey everybody,

as many of you may know I've got an Uncle Fester hair style--ie, none whatsoever. Spring is in the air and the sun, even up in Maine is getting stronger. I need a hat but I need advice of those of you who know your hats.

Here's what I want:

Wide brimmed. I'm fond of the aussie leather style hats. But I'm not opposed to classy/classic western either.

Any suggestions are much appreciated! (links to good websites are great too!)

Thanks,

Rob

Well, you know, Josh has some fuzz on his head that he obviosly doesn't like, since he keeps hitting it with dye bottles. Maybe he'd give it to you, and you could weave something out of it. If it's too short for that, maybe plaster some clay on your head and work the fuzz into it. Reinforces the clay.

But, you've already thought of all this, haven't you?

Leather is too hot here. I wear one of Columbia's hats that have the mesh in the crown to let the breeze in. The mesh really does work and keep my scalp cool, but the brim is not huge though. While looking for a pic, I found that Campmor has them on sale. They also have another identical-named item at $16, with more colors, not sure what the difference is there.

I've also got this Riverz Scout hat in my bookmarks, interesting but with my odd-shaped head I buy all my hats in person. Somewhere else I thought I had bookmarked a site that sold western and Aussie styled hats out of Austin area, made from palm fronds.

If you want a run of the mill hat most anyplace will do but there are some places that sell better hats than others.;)
If you want the epitome in hats check out Tim Bender and get one of the best made hats today.  :D

etp,

Very Sinatra. Cool, but i couldn't pull it off. I would however look like a mob goon in that hat...

I can vouch for the Columbia Bora Bora Booney. It's my favorite hot weather hiking hat. You can compensate for the medium brim by pulling it down low over your eyes. The Tilley can be obtained with a huge brim that will shade even your toes, but it looks a little goofy.;)

I'm a big fan of Dorfman Pacific hats. This one is pretty much my trademark; it's wool felt, good for sun, rain and snow.

Filson makes some nice stuff. I've got a tin cloth packer hat that I like, but it doesn't breathe all that well in my opinion. The best brimmed hat I've ever had is actually a plain old boonie hat. Doesn't look all that great, but I've had it for over a decade, and it's still going strong. It's kept the sun off my head, as well as wind, rain, cold, and probably a few other things along the way.

See the funny hat thread...

Darn it you're right Nasty! If I can't find what I want in that fine showcase of headwear then I'm too darn picky, end of story:D

Thanks for good help everyone!! This may take me awhile but when I decide I'll "treat you" to a pic of the hat, maybe even on my head.
