Hi all!

I need help dating my two latest e-bay findings,,
A Buck 500 and a 501 - neither of them have any of the symbols seen in the "date chart" at buck.com..
BOTH of them only say : Buck 500 (501) USA
with `Buck´written in an almost medieval font!

Does these two fall under the category pre 1986 - since they have no markings besides the above???

Maybe this is basic Buck-knowledge but I have to ask :)

Thanks for a great forum - I wish I didn´t have to eat, sleep or go to work.. -than I could just sit infront of my computer and enjoy all of what´s in "here"!!! :D

see you!

Martin,
If the handle inlays are burgundy micarta, your 500 series knife with the script three line tang stamp would be prior to 1981. At about that time, they switched to impregnated birch inlays. The script tang stamp remained in use until about 1985 (give or take a bit) when Buck switched to a block letter tang stamp. Some of these block letter tang stamps also incorporated a dot after the model number. A very few have a dot before AND after the model number (I have only seen a 500 marked this way). The significance of the dot(s) remains unclear.

I usually just sit on the porch, strumming my banjo, and date Buck knives. But I had no knowledge of the span of time used for the script, or Olde English, style font of the tang stamp.
My 3-dot 111 Classics have that tang stamp too.
Thanks Larry.

And, for the record, while I have been known to date Buck knives, I have never impregnated any member of the Birch family. ;)

Thanks Larry!

No micarta, so it must be the birch inlays - right!? The conclusion would be that my knives are from the early, to mid 80´s!!??

I also have a: no dot, no other marking 110, that the seller claimed to be from the late 70´s..
But judging from what you told me about the use of block letters and all, I would like to put this 110 somewhere around the mid 80´s!!???
It has the old blade profile, and those "not so round" bolsters like the contemporary knives have.

As you can see I have to make up my own descriptive words where I´m sure you guys have the correct terms :o
I just hope you understand what I mean!? ( I´m swedish)

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my post!!
