Help me decide...Commander or CQC-7 Wave

Hello,
While searching the internet for more info on the Commander, I came upon this site. May I just say that this is the kind of site I was looking for.
I currently carry either a Spyderco Police or a Pro-Grip Lightweight. I've used them for everything from opening boxes to opening letters and even cutting a tough steak.
Anyway, I have a minor dilemma...whether to choose the Commander or the CQC-7 Wave as my next "carry" knife. Help me decide guys.
Thanks.

It really depends what the main use will be.

If you want a defensive / fighting knife, then go for the Commander.

If it's a utility knife for opening boxes, cutting vegetables but also the defensive capability, I'd go for the CQC7.

I personally carry a CQC7 and a CQC6!

I agree with dd1967. My daily carry Commander BTS receives alot of use for typical daily chores such as cutting open bales of hay, opening sacks of feed, letter opening, etc.,....but my reasons for carrying it are first and foremost defensive in nature.
If you decide upon the Commander, check the prices at www.botachtactical.com . Not only is their price for the Commander excellent ($149), but they consistantly deliver product to me in 1-2 days, and their service has always been extremely courteous. Let me give you an example; I wanted a Commander in the worst way. Since Botach Tactical has treated me so well in the past, and after seeing their price on the Commander, I gave them a call. Now, I fully realize that production Emerson blades sometimes lack necessary quality control, so I made my concerns known to the people at Botach. They assured me that they would gladly handpick my Commander, and that it would be completely satisfactory. Was I at all disappointed? Hardly. The 3F's (fit, finish, and function) of this knife are exemplary. I own a good number of knives, custom and production, but if I were limited to only one I would choose my Commander above all else. I will only do one thing to this blade in order to further improve it to my tastes, and that is the addition of one of the Skull Logo pocket clips which Emerson debuted at the 2000 Blade Show. In fact, I just ordered one yesterday directly from Emerson,....even though it's $15 plus shipping (Ugh!). Oh well, there's some things that we just can't put a price on,....like perfecting our toys

Thanks for the info guys. Really appreciate it. But after reading the other posts, I've decided to get a SOCFK as my first Emerson knife. See my post above.
But you know what, I'm probably going to order the Commander and the CQC7 Wave too! Just want to make sure that I have all my "bases" covered. Mr. VISA and Mr. MasterCard are gonna have a workout this Christmas season. hehe...
Thanks again guys.

BTW, is this a sickness and, if so, have I caught it? Emerson knives....hmmm...looks like I'm leaving my Spyderco's at home from now on...

Allan,
Welcome to the Forums, both are great knives, although The Commander is better suited for defensive purposes, and yes it is a sickness

Not wanting to rain or (snow) on anyone's parade but I've been reading about a lot of complaints concerning Botach Tactical lately in the Good Bad and Ugly.

Anyone, thinking about doing business with this company may wish to do a search prior to committing funds. Personally I've made a purchase from them that went flawless, however this is just a "heads up" based upon the latest musings in the G.B.& U. forum.

Allan:

Do a search using only "Botach" under the Good, Bad, and Ugly forum and approx six threads will pop up for you to read about their service. Hope this helps.

Here is the deal with botach tactical.. I've ordered from them half a dozen times now over the period of 6 months. They do a good job when the order is straight forward and they have things in stock. However, when they mess up and don't have something in stock or make a mistake on your order, their customer service can sometimes be lacking and frustrating.. other times it can be superb. They're really wishy washy but they have great prices and that for me outweights the risk of sometimes dealing with moron customer service people.

I've never really considered getting a CQC7.. I have a commander and a socfk and I don't see the need for a CQC7 really. Have fun with your purchases

Allan R,
You made the right choice; the SOCFK. I use this for my daily street carry/defensive knife, and I love it. I have owned Commanders, and I own a waved-7, I think the SOCFK is the best of the three, hands down. I have had trouble with QC on Commanders, and the SpecWar handle on the SOCFK beats the waved-7's.

Now that you've got the bug, practice saying, "Hello, my name is Allan, and I'm a Wave-aholic....."

My opinion differs.. after playing around with the SOCFK, I love my commander more. The commander to me just feels more balanced in the ratio of handle and blade, it's smoother as well for me. Maybe my SOCFK just needs to be broken in but I like how easily the blade on my commander comes out.

Sure the SOCFK is very well made and all but I can't put down my Commander. If the SOCFK's blade was a little bigger/heavier and the pivot was a little slicker then maybe it would be a different story, dunno.

Alan,
Welcome fellow nubie. I faced the same choice as you and went with a waved CQC-7 w/ plain black blade. See it and why I chose it in my first post "New Suspect w/ New CQC-7". Anyway, if you are going to get one, they only have about 10 left out of 100 and the next run will not be numbered. It's Christmas right?
