Hello Blade Forums Knife Nut Experts,

I need some help deciding on two large knives. I need so Pros and Cons of each.

Both are differently made, with different materials. One is handmade and the other I a mass produced.
Intended use, camping, SHTF, etc (hard use, NOT a safe queen) and all around knife. Basically, to be used in an environment of hard use, possible wet (depends on the weather), not ideal conditions.
I will have an ax for large / main chopping duty.

In the interest of openness and honesty, I own the G'Zilla but want to know if I have the "right" knife. Also, photos shown are stock file photos, not my own.

First up:
Fallkniven Wilderness Knife (A2)
Overall size -12 3/4"
Blade Length -8"
Handle -4 3/4"
Handle Material -Kraton
Blade width -2" at thickest point
Blade Thickness- .236"
Weight - 24 Oz
Laminated VG10 steel

Second up:
Paul Moore Knives G'Zilla
Overall size -16 1/2"
Blade Length -10 3/4"
Handle -5 7/8"
Handle Material -Micarta
Blade width -2"
Blade Thickness- 1/4"
Weight - 32 Oz
1080 steel

The Moore is significantly larger than the A2, the two are not all that comparable except as large vs. less large.
Unless you are going to be felling trees and building a cabin or splitting many cords of wood, I am not sure why you'd want/need an axe with that P.Moore knife along. And if you already own it, you perhaps know how it handles. Is it too big for your needs? If so, there are a lot of A2-size blades out there. Why the A2? What about it makes you think you might prefer it to the Moore?

Hm, it's not that easy to give You an answer, even if I'm a Fällkniven user all the way.

Personally I never put anything larger than an 8" blade in my pack.
No ax and sometimes a Bacho Laplander saw.

The 8" blade I have is the Fällkniven NL2 Odin.
I also have 10" to 12" blades + axes, but those aren't with me when camping.
When I got the NL2, I handled both the A2 and NL2 at the same time.
As I could afford the NL2 and it felt nicer overall, I picked that one and I have never looked back!

The smaller knives around 3" to 5" bladelenght, are what I have the most use for.
So far I haven't used a big knife since 2003,when camping in the wild (but use it a lot around the property).
The NL2 is there if I would loose vital parts of my camping gear.
I keep the NL2 in the bottom of a compact daypack, when I'm away from the camp.

With the info we have at this early stage of this thread, my advice would be to look at the Fällkniven F1.
As You already have larger tools for chopping and shelterbuilding, a smaller knife looks like a better recommendation.

@Chiral.gromlin & @Mikael W,

I am looking at the Fallkniven knives from a all weather rust resistant durability, and not to mention they are a "known" valuable. Meaning, it is widely known how tough and durable these knives are. This is not to say the G'Zilla is not tough, I know it is, but with that 1080 steel and the corrosion / rust factor is not really comforting.

If I have already known that a smaller "companion" blade is absolutely needed. I have already be eyeing the Fallkniven F1. That is what got me looking and thinking move seriously about the Fallkniven line of knives.

That makes things more clear!
A combo of the F1 and the A2 will be awesome tools on Your future adventures!
A DC 4 sharpening stone will complete the package.

@Mikael W.,

Thank you sir. I am looking to have a combo kydex sheath made that will hold both knives as well as a fire starter. The kydex will drain and not allow the knives to retain moisture agains it, in the case of the A2. The smaller F1 can come in a kydex which is fine. But for a SHTF (grab and go), having a combo this way is awful handy.

What is the reputation of the Paul Moore G'Zilla and knife in the knife community? I know what I thin, but I am very interested in knowing what others think / know.

If the blade touches the kydex without plenty of air around it, it may get affected by corrosion and dirtparticles.
This is a reason FK offers so many models of zytelsheaths.
Ugly but practical for both summer and arctic conditions.

But You seems to be aware of this and then kydex should be fine, if properly designed.

@ Mikael W.,

Thanks again for the input on the Fallknivens and kydex sheath. Prior to your comment, I didn't think about how the zytel sheaths from Fallkniven where designed. Now that you mention this, it makes sense.
I did always know that any moisture against a blade is a bad thing.

I am looking to Brown Holsters or Armadillo Sheaths make a customer rig for this combo.
