Help me decide, guys...

I'm working on a Bowie, and I want to put a D-Guard on it, but I can't decide what material to use...

Brass would look good, but I fear that it may be too soft. Steel would be good, but unless I did some filework or something on it, it wouldn't add much to the blade's aesthetics.

I'm still what I consider to be a starting blademaker, so I don't have access to a lot of tools, just yet (getting there, though!) I don't do any heat treating, yet--gotta send out for that, and I just have a propane torch for heating/shaping/bending.

So, anodized Ti is RIGHT OUT. Within the given limits, what are your thoughts, guys?

Meddle not in the affairs of Dragons, for you are crunchy, and good with ketchup...

What type of knife do you want? I have never seen a traditonal D guard using brass. You might cold blue the guard. What type steel are you using? If it's carbon steel I'd prefer a mild steel guard, if it's stainlees, then 304 for the guard. IMHO
