First off, I know I "need" a 9, but I also just "had" a daughter, so I won't be getting the woods time needed to justify the purchase, so not yet.

I will be getting both eventually but I am trying to decide which one first the bk5 and bk15 , prices are comparable. It will see mostly kitchen use with some light use around the yard and fire pit. I am a Butcher so I am equally comfortable with larger and smaller knives, so that is not a deciding factor for me...

I would like some pros and cons listed from those who have either and preferably both.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

I have a 2 and a 24. Looking for a more slice friendly knife, I will likely be picking up a 14 when I get the 5/15.

I don't have the 5, so I can't comment...but I love my 15.

If you're thinking about a 14, it's worth considering the 24 instead (IMO).

The 15 is more useful in the kitchen IMO then the 5. Mine lives in the kitchen. I tried to move it into my pack but my girlfriend cried foul--she chooses it over kitchen knives all the time:

I'd agree. If you really are going to use it mostly in the kitchen go with the 15. If you are going to use it mostly in the yard, go with the 5. The difference in scale is pretty amazing. I'm no chef, but the 5 seems like too much blade for most kitchen tasks.

The thing on the far left is a steak knife out of our cheapy kitchen block set.

Haven't had either the 5 or 15 but i would skip the 5 and get a 9 and 15. That way you"ll have a Becker for every occasion. GET THE 9!

All. Get them ALL. And an extra large butcher block to stick them in. With blood stains on it. Then spend all your free time in an old leather apron, sharpening your knives and sticking them into the block. That's what I'd do.

But I do have to add that the 5 is a wicked cool and very useful knife.

Where is clich with a "bk5 is always best" when you need him?

Thanks folks, I am fairly certain it is going to be a 15.

Dunk, that photo helped a lot to show them in a scale that is relatable, thanks.
