I know I really dont need a reason to pick up something new, but I cant think of a better one than my upcoming deployment. And the excuse works really well with my wife )
So here's my short list: Busse Boney active duty, Benchmade Auto Presidio, ZT-0300, Surefire EW-05 Echo .

I have an auto-presidio great knife. FYI you are going to need a letter from your commander to get it back to the U.S. saying it was issued by unit, or do something sneaky like hide it in your tote or duffel bag after customs inspection. Though I would never advocate breaking the rules , I have this friend;) Who got his back to the states by sticking his in his IBA:D

Yup, that is always a consideration, im sure any auto if will end up in the bottom of one of my D bags in the conex. I'm familiar with the whole letter thing, can't believe it's come to that.

What will you be doing? Where exactly are you going? I've been multiple places and each one requires a different knife (at least that's what I tell my wife too). :)

I dont know about what you need for deployment so I probably shoudn't comment but I will anyway, the ZT 300 is as tough as a tank and a great knife that will do probably everything you need to do.

South central Iraq, standard 11B stuff. A fixed blade just seems a bit much these days for general utility work, although I was really interested in that surefire model I mentioned above.

I would go with the Benchmade! I also recommend the BM 815 but if you go with it take off the clip until you get back and carry it in a sheath. The clip is the only weak link.

Thats 2 votes for the benchmade and 1 for the ZT-300. Benchmade has it so far.

If you're indoors pushing paper, it would be hard to beat a SAK and a Leatherman Wave.

Easy---Busse. ;)

Anyone know what the back of the kidex sheath for the Busse boney active duty looks like? If it's strictly a belt mounted design that would pretty much eliminate that one for me, it will have to be attached to my rack due to the fact that I cant really sit down with a fixed blade on my belt with all my crap on.

My neighbors son is heading back. I stocked him up when he left for his first tour. He is in the field on patrols and maneuvers.
1. MT SOCOM DA
2. MT mini SOCOM SA (Off duty carry).
3. Becker Bowie
4. Becker necker
5. Wave

He was in Italy after his first deployment and got to come back home before his second so we had an evening to talk last week.
The knife that gets used the most in the field is his wave. Although he said he likes having a big fixed blade on him too. :).

The sheath that is sold at the Busse Company store has a tecloc on the back which would work well well molle attachments.

Im a 11B out of Fort Wainwright Alaska. Id recommend a Al Mar S.E.R.E 2000 or its Mini version,Leatherman Skeletool, and a BRKT Bravo-1
