well i am looking to make some money over the summer, and i have some right now, but i would like to buy me a few nice knives to own and use
currently i am looking at the kershaw clash and skyline to buy together, but then i saw some other reviews of the scallion and the drone, and now i cant decide.
the blade length doesn't really matter but i prefer a liner-lock, that is why its between these 4 knives.

so post up your opinion on what 2 i should go with.

Thanks,
Boneskid1

Also i am thinking about getting a spyderco tenacious, and a spyderco ladybug, is that a good or bad idea (if i cant ask this in the kershaw/zt forum just ask and it will get moved)

Blur is always a good bet.

Great opening speed, only thumb stud (no flipper), DLC, nice big belly (much like the clash), rubber inlays for grip. Very solid knife all around.

IMHO the best KERSHAW knives made so far are the speed bump and the JYD II

The composite Rake and JYD are both excellent designs, and have fantastic edge steel

themz my .02

I do love that speed bump (though only the G10 version, and over course spec bump and offset). That knife is my baby, even more so than my 0350CBZDP. Though I've customized it a bit.

The rake and JYD2 are good, but I think once you get into that higher price range, I think the 0350 or the S30V blur are better options (but then, I don't like D2 steel, so that might be why), but I do like the simple curve of the Rake, nice and easy to sharpen.

of the 10 kershaws i have, the blur is my favorite all-around. they come in several different handle colors, blade styles, and blade steels so you can almost certainly find one you like. the size and weight are excellent for EDC and it is, by far, the fastest opening knife i own. i only wish they made one with a flipper! i love my skyline as well, but it is almost too light in my opinion. give me a fully steel lined skyline with speedsafe and it would probably surpass the blur.

Out of the knives you listed I have a Scallion and a Skyline, I think you would be happy with either, I am. Just depends if you want a manual featherweight flipper or an assisted recurve ken onion design.

The Scallion is what got me hooked, I love the overall shape, functions great too. Only downside, the blade steel is nothing special.

The Skyline is like a suit knife, a great everyday carry knife, its a manual flipper and will take time to wear in, but can be lighting fast too.

I am not sure about the Clash or the Drone, but in that price range I would go American made, its worth it. I think the Drone (and JYD) is a Tim Gaylean design, but made overseas. The Junk Yard Dog in Sandvick or composite D-2 blade is the better choice.

well considering i am only 16 and i want a few other knives my budget isn't to high but i might just buy them all over a period of time :D right out of the barrel though i will probably get the clash and the skyline or scallion, and i will forget the drone as it is to similar to the other imo

2 other questions though
Is it hard to sharpen the re-curved blade on the clash and scallion?
How well does kershaw's black coasted blades hold up as far as scratching goes?

i am looking for the kershaw's to have a flipper.

did anyone else notice that the price of the skyline has jumped a few bars from what it was 2 weeks ago?

P.S. where do you guys usually buy your knives? i was looking on bladeHQ but they seem a bit steep in prices.

As far as the coating, It is very good. In my opinion compared to other brand names. I have 2 that have it, that I use as edc's. I have one or two deep scratchs from cutting a few aluminum cans. Alot of the time the marks will mostly buff right out! I believe it is called tungsten dlc

Correct me if I'm wrong but since your 16 you can't technically buy knives online since you have to be 18 or older.... I have skylines, scallions, leeks etc etc and my favorites are the Blur and Shallot. Many of them can be had under $50

Kershaw offers free re-sharpening for life! Just have to ship it to them. It does take more work to sharpen a recurve, not much, depends how and what you use to do it.

RE the coating, generally any coating is better than no coating imho. Its a slick hard layer between what you are cutting and the actual blade. The stonewashed finish shows use the least over time, because it basically comes all scratched up already.

I think you should look at the US made Kershaw Zing, its a 3" manual flipper, comes in grooved(striated) and tanto (partial serrations or plain edge) versions, they are discontinued as US made (and now made overseas) and go for around $25 shipped. Out of all of the ones mentioned its my favorite for the past week or so.

get a summer job and start saving up, cause you will be hooked soon and be upsold on more and more expensive Kershaw offerings.

getting the blade forums.com special skyline is a good investment. its a cool customs order that comes with a membership.

its expensive but almost like a Zero Tolerance version of the Skyline.

+1 for the Clash. I'd take it all day over the Skyline. You can get both for just under $50 if you shop around. The ergos on the clash are excellent.
