As the title says, I want you to help me decide on a CRK for me to edc for a year straight!

I have followed similar threads over the years, and always enjoyed reading the user’s thoughts on the knife, and seeing how they evolved over time. I have wanted to do a thread like this for a long time, but could never convince myself to try it… until now! A year is a long time, especially since I will be going to Blade again this year, but that’s why I need your help deciding on what knife to get.

A little about me

I work in an office, so that is why I want to stick with a smaller folder. I have already owned two small Sebenzas, a large Sebenza, and a couple Umnumzaans. I want to try a new design. That is why I need your help deciding between a TiLock, Mnandi, or small Inkosi. I am leaning towards the Inkosi, but I have always been intrigued by the TiLock and Mnandi.

I will leave this thread open until 2/21. That will give me a week to order the knife in time for my start date of 3/01. I will also open a new thread and update it every month with my thoughts on the knife. I will also let you know if I slip up, or decide I can’t make it lol:p

My recommendation for a year would definitely be a Ti-Lock. The small handle to large blade length will get you through all your tasks while being non-threatening.

Good luck!

I think the ti-lock is a little large for office carry, so I voted for the small Inkosi with the Mnandi being a hair behind.

I haven't owned a Ti-Lock, but between the Mnandi and Inkosi...it's Inkosi all the way. The Mnandi is impossible (for me at least) to open one handed.

I currently own all of those knives and my Inkosi, there was only the small when I got it, has been my EDC for almost a year. On February 5th it will be a full year in my pocket and its not going to change any time soon. The Ti-lock and Mnandi have been second knives at times but never pushed the Inkosi out of my pocket. That is the same for my Small 21's. They just can't kick the Inkosi out of my pocket. Some day I expect a inlayed Inkosi will finally do it but not right now.

You didn't include a Small 21 on the list because you've had one before?
I would exclude the Mnandi because you don't spend all of your time in the office and outside of the office you may need "more" knife.
I very narrowly exclude the Ti Lock because it's a bit bulky for office.(If you are a tall, large person ignore this)
I select the Inkosi.

I think that the Ti lock is no larger if at all , than a small Inkosi.... As far as office work, I think Ti-Lock would be my choice,,, To me the Inkosi is similar to the 2 small Sebs that you have already owned.

I don't know if you do anything outside of the office to require a knife, but I would agree that the Mnandi is a bit small and dainty for outdoors use. I haven't owned a Ti Lock. Having owned an Mnandi and Inkosi I would say the Ink will take anything you can throw at it in any situation over a year.

Thanks to everyone who has voted or responded to this thread! So for the Inkosi is in front by a mile. You all are making really great pionts and I appreciate the feedback.

As to why the small sebenza isn't listed. I have owned a few small sebenza knives, and the extra holes always bugged me. It's a great knife otherwise and if the inkosi was offered with an insingo blade I wouldn't have needed to make this thread lol

FWIW, I think handle size has just as much to do with "intimidation factor" as blade length... I have a fixed blade with a 3.25" blade, started out with a 4.25" full size handle. I reshaped the handle down to 3.75" and a lot narrower, think "neck knife", but left the blade alone, and now the knife reads like a small knife but with the bigger blade.

I feel like the Inkosi would be the best choice for you, but I would personally be more interested in reading about your experiences with the Ti-Lock, so, selfishly, I chose Ti-Lock.. :P

The Ti Lock is certainly a great choice, and is super efficient in the sense of a lot of blade for a compact knife. It also comes across as more "man jewelry" than the Inkosi does IMHO.

Are you planning to utilize the pocketclip or just slip it into your pocket?

Thanks for your honesty!:D:thumbup:

I have had terrible luck with things sliding out of my pockets when I were slacks a couple of times a week. As a matter of fact, last week I lost my flashlight when it slid out of my pocket somewhere. I would most certainly like to keep it clipped. If I found that I couldn't have a knife clipped in my pocket, then I would need to buy a some sort of slip resistant pocket sheath. I just see the CRK leather sheath sliding out of my pocket, but I don't know for sure because I have never owned one.

The GGHawk spring clip is definitely different. I personally like it, but plenty of others don't. It isn't "automatic" for those of use with years of "normal" tension clip experience. For me, it is akin to readjusting for axis lock or compression lock carry after years of RIL/linerlock carry. Doable, but not without an adjustment period. And of course the traditional clip is a simple and inexpensive bolt on. I can tell you that my Ti Lock (which I no longer have but do miss) got more comments and compliments than the vast majority of my carry folders.
