hey guys

I've always wanted to get a Sebenza and I finally have the means to get one!

I'm torn between getting a large plain vs the Knife Art Carbon fiber.

This knife will be EDC'd and it will be heavily used ( and most likely see some abuse).

I really like the look of the carbon fiber, but is it as tough as the titanium?

I carried a BM titanium 790 subrosa and know what well worn titanium looks like, personally i like it! I do not know what well worn Carbon fiber looks like though.

Any insight would be appreciated!

Yes.... To me it is gripper, and if it gets wet the micarta will make a difference, and the cold....

i ordered the small carbon fiber a few days ago. should receive it monday. i think carbon fiber will show less wear than titanium, its lighter, and just as durable.

get the carbon fiber...cant go wrong with lighter weight.

i looked on the forum at all the sebenzas for sale and it seems that even the ones that werent used to cut anything have pocket wear on the titanium handles.

that being said...carbon fiber should not show that same wear and tear just from sliding it into your pocket.
a $400 knife should at least look nice after you use it :D

Keep in mind tough that you can send the titanium sebbie back to CRK and for like 30 bucks they'll stonewash it again for you. I know they can make your titanium one look good as new but I'm not 100% sure on the CF maybe someone else has had experience with it can help you there.

I would go for the regular Ti because even though I own both I like the balance and feel of the two Ti scales on the large, now if you were thinking about the small I would say get the CF that thing is Awesome, the small sebenza is just perfect for CF. If you were throwing Micarta into the mix, then hands down Large Micarta.

IMO your best bet is to buy a Large Micarta and then contact Barry H here on the forums and order a CF scale from him. That would get you the best of both worlds.

For your first Sebenza you can't go wrong with just a plain Jane Sebenza 21. A Micarta 21 would be even better.
The carbon fiber edition is sweet and all but if it were me I would rather buy a plain jane and get a knife pimper to make me
a carbon fiber scale so I could switch between the TI and CF when I wanted. But who am I kidding, any Sebenza is going
to be sweet first CRK. :)

As said above, any Sebenza is going to be sweet!
BUT, if I was forced to only have one that was going to be an EDC user, I'd likely go with micarta for a little added bulkiness to it, though bulky is not for everyone.
Let us know what you decide and post pics too :)
*** Oh and a disclaimer, I don't even use CRKs as knives should be used, I just collect them with the occasional letter/package opening duty.....so consider that when reading my comment.

Im going to throw my vote in for a Large Sebenza 21 with Micarta inlay. It's not bulky(to me), gives a good grip, and the inlays are very well done.

Great user all around and under $500.

I tend to EDC the all titanium versions with no inlays.

It may take a few "catch and releases" to find what works for you.

Another vote for large micarta here. With the milling for the inlays, it makes them lighter than the plain. Mine was the last knife I've purchased, and is a keeper for life.

killer guys! thanks for the insight. i will be picking up a large sebenza this week. I'll make sure that i update this thread with some pics!

i vote for the large plain jane. i didn't like the weight of the large carbon fiber, but i do like the weight of the small carbon fiber.

regardless, you'll eventually have both, and then more :p
