I just bought on of Scotts last runs of PSK's. After getting it I realized I had to have another one in aroud the 4" range. Here is the deal. I am not really what I would consider a bushcrafter yet. Most if not all my outings are really just local hunting and fishing trips with a little camping thrown in. So here is what I want. I want a knife in aroung the 4 " range to us for skinning and other butchering and field dressing tasks mostly. It will also used for general utility and camping. I like both the PSK Sr and WTK. Also like the mini tusker, and nussmuk and kepheart. Which one of these in you guys opinion best fits my bill. I also need to spend my money wise with a little one on the way it is probably my last knife buy for a little while. Any and all opinions are appreciated.

Do not forget to consider Scott's semi-skinner. I think this design is one of Scott's best and does not get the respect it deserves. From your description, the semi-skinner is a great choice, however, so are the other models you have mentioned.

Hear is a link to a web page that has provide a photograph of one spectacular example of the semi-skinner! http://www.tactical-life.com/online/tactical-knives/new-gossman-semi-skinner-hunter/?right=related

Scott, also has a great picture of the semi-skinner on his web site!

You cant go wrong when you purchase a Gossman made knife!

I am not sure and am speculating, however, would be in the range of 3 ¾” blade w/ 4 1/4” handle an OAL of 8”.

It is a full custom knife so you could work with Scott and get it just the way you want it!

One thing to consider is the wait. If you go with the Mini Tusker, WTK or PSK series with micarta only, the wait is only a few weeks. All other models custom ordered are at least a 10 month wait.
The semi skinner hunter is 8 1/2" overall with a 4" blade, 3 3/4" cutting edge. It's 5/32" thick by 1 1/4" wide. Available in either O1, A2 or D2. For a hunting knife, I recommend D2. It seems to hold an edge forever.

All right I have decided on the Mini- Tusker now I just need to decide on the steel choice. I do not know all of the pros and cons between the diffrent steels. Scott Recomeded the D2 but he and lots of other people here speak real highly of the A2. I do not know the diffrence. Can some of you help explain it to me.

Read my mini review of the mini-tusker. It is my favorite blade and my current woods knife I reach for first. A2 steel, 4" blade, 4.25" handle, 5/32" thick by 1" wide. AWESOME!

Thanks Kev.
cddogfan1, I like D2 for hunting knives because of it's excellent edge holding and is more resistant to rust compared to A2. Especially when dealing with blood and animal body fluids.

The mini Tusker is the next on my list. I used Scott's on our last outing and fell right in love with it.

All right. Got it ordered A2 steel black canvas micarta handles, JRE fire steel sheath. Can not wait.

I'll be grinding your blade this weekend as part of the grinding demo at my rendezvous. Plus HTing it. I'm sure pics will be taken.
