I know you guys are sick of the "which one" post but i need help please. I need to decide between a plain Large Sebenza 21 with the blue hardware or a Micarta Large Sebenza for EDC. Also should I get the blade polished or stonewashed? Will the polished part of the blade show scratches real bad with usage? You guys with polished blades sound off! Ok now about the steel, I would prefer S30V but S35VN is all they have. I did a search on this steel and some negatives came up. Too soft, and with extreme use the edge will roll. Saw that on a video. What do you guys that have S35VN think or have to say about it?? Please let me know thanks

Well I'll help you out a bit. I've had both and I definitely prefer the micarta over the plain. It just feels better in the hand. More rounded feeling and has a warmer feel to it not to mention it looks a lot better. As far as the steel goes i like both equally well. The S35 takes a finer sharper edge but the S30V seems to hold its edge better in my opinion. As for the finish I would say the stone wash is the way to go for a heavy user since it hides scratches well. The polished is prettier but will definitely show scratches faster than stone washed.

Ok, I'll say it: "Sh*t"

The difference between the two steels is not enough to slip a piece of paper between sideways in most uses. Plain, micarta, how can we tell you which you prefer? I'd start with the micarta in whichever steel I found, but this knife is yours not mine.

58 views and nobody cant say Sh*t?? :(

If it's gonna be a true USER, I would prefer Micarta with a stonewashed blade. As for S30V vs. S35VN, you can't go wrong with either one.

I'd say micarta as well, I think they're a bit "grippier" than the standard Ti, As for S30 vs S35, there aren't really any noticeable difference, though if you buy a new one, chances are it'll be S35. My Micarta is polished, and it does not show any scratches after being my EDC user for quite some months...though I have to say that I think the stonewashed blades are cooler looking ;)

At the end of the day bro, it's a sebenza and you can't go wrong. While I can understand and appreciate you wanting to fine tune your selection, it's akin to choosing between 2 BMWs, one has a spoiler and sunroof and the other has the winter package and moonroof. I think you get my point. Or like others, you could always get both. Good luck!!

Although a lot of people here prefer the micarta I like the plain sebenza because it is more slim in pocket. Also the uniformity of the scale makes it disappear in the pocket more quickly. As far as the blade goes, stonewash is much preferred for use. It wont show scratches easily and it wont show finger prints.

Having said this my every day carry for work in a small CGG with polished blade. Its like phantom357 said, with sebenzas you really cant go wrong

Hi,

I was recently in the same position as you, I eventually went with a polished blade, plain 21 with S35VN, Why?

I went with this style because to me it looked like older classic styles from the 90's which I had been admiring since the early days of the Sebenza, which I wish I had bought back then. Living in Australia had always made it expensive and risky. Also being an amateur knife maker I use a buff wheel too finish my edge off when resharpening, so being polished already makes it easy.

I am happy with my new knife and its older look, the Ti scales are already taking on that patina of age.

Like every one said you cant go wrong with what ever you choose, good luck. And for the record if I had to do it again I would go for the same configuration.

Regards

Rusty

I would say Micarta and stonewashed blade for a great user. The plain 21 would not be a bad user either, but I prefer the micarta. I would stay away from the polished blade-the stonewashed is great at hiding scratches.

WOW!! Just what I was looking for! Thank you everyone for your help! After a whole night and all day today of thinking, I decided to go with the plain large Sebenza with blue hardware! I owned a plain one in S30V a year ago and I loved the feel of it! (I kick myself in the Arse for getting rid of it!!) Thank you everyone! Now the dreaded wait!!!!
